CD player overheating

If I play cd's for more than like 20 minutes, they start skipping so bad you can't even tell what song it's on, and when I eject the CD it feels really warm. The skipping even goes for brand new cd's with not a single scratch on them, and I don't have a warranty on the deck. Any way I could keep my player cooler? I was thinking set a couple computer fans on top.. do they take 12V? Should I point the fans towards it or away? Any other ideas?

I have a 2000 Civic hatchback with a Pioneer DEH-P4100.

Have you tried to clean the lens? If the lens has a hard time reading the disk I think it usually speeds the disk up which would casue some extra heat. Just a thought.

Yeah bought a cleaner for it like a month ago, the kind with little brushes sticking off the CD.

They're rated for 12v, yes. I'm not sure how much that's going to help you out, though. CDs always come out of my Pioneer helluva warm if they've gotten 20+ minutes of play, but I've never had the problems you're describing-- even on 10+ hour trips.

I think your CD player is just going bad. I had a Pioneer I bought off my bro that started doing the same thing. But as it started to piss me off more I used to punch it, and ended up cracking the circuit board so the volume stopped working. I haven't had the problem with my new deck though.
It's risky, but you could try to open it up and see if there is a lot of dust in there or something.

lol wrong forum big guy. Anyhow, it sounds like your CD player is going bad. DEH-P4100 is like nearly a 5 year old model isn't it. If you wanna try out the fans mount one underneath blowing air towards the cd player and one on top blowing air away from the cd player.

Yeah it's pretty old but it's held up really well.. and that's a great idea for the fans.

I gatta pioneer deck but i dunno what model it is, but uh when I slide my deck out after playin a cd I burned my finger. I think I need a new one.

I think they naturally get rather warm, I can't remember having a CD player that did not get pretty warm to the touch after long play times.

CD Players do naturally get warm, but it shouldn't to the point where it can't read the CD correctly.

ill tell you from experience, that my pioneer deck deh something or other, burst into flames inside my console, i dont know what was wrong, but i tell you this, i wont be buying another pioneer any time soon.

sounds like you just need a new player, ive had my 3600 for about a year now and its great. my cds only get hot like that when the cd is really scratched up.
fan idea is really good, but might be a little noisy. and while water cooling it would be awesome, itd also be somewhat overkill

kenwoods had that same problem back in the day.

I've only owned Pioneer HUs, will own my 4th here soon, and all of my family's other vehicles sport pioneer decks. Never had a problem with them.
