"To use a shift light or tach, you must grab a signal from the ECU (white wire on all years; on 95's the wire is located in the middle of the plug on the ECU; on 96+ it is located on the lower plug. Note that it's the solid white wire and NOT the white with yellow stripe)." - 2gnt.

If you have more trouble, search DSMtuners.

If it is the same as the 2g GS-T's it's behind the drivers side kick panel (next to the accelerator). You have to remove some screws and a couple of clips and you should be able to see the ECU. It should have 4 plugs (once again if it's the same as mine).

Here you go....I wrote this awhile back in regards to rpm tap for a turbo timer (same wire).

it shows how to install a SAFC-II. It says that it's ECU pin-out #58. (also called engine ignition signal). You will probably have to cross reference this with the ECU pin-out diagram from VFAQ.com. Look in the electrical section. It looks like it is the smallest plug on the ECU (out of 4) second wire from the left on the bottom row (opposite side of the tab you push to remove the plug). You will want to double check this before you go hacking wires, just in case I read it wrong.

i tapped into a wiring in the engine bay off of what i thought was the ECU. its on the right side right behind the intake box. has 2 plus with big wire harnesses. picked the bottom plug and tapped into the solid white wire... the tach works, then again so does the stock at the same time lol... what did i do wrong?

You tapped it. If you don't want the stock tach to work (why not?) then unplug it and only connect it to the aftermarket one. Do you want a dead tach sitting in your car?

i first cut that white wire and wired in my aftermarket tach and it didnt work, ut as soon as i wired the stock tach back up and then just tapped into the wire signal, both worked then. so i'm not sure how to keep the aftermarket to work and not the stock (not that it really matters though) what did you mean by did i want a dead tach sitting in my car?
