Painting Brake Calipers

Is it a good idea to paint my brake calipers with my stock wheels (they are the GSX ones)? OR will this look retarded and be a waste of $25 and time?

yeah, thats gonna look retarded. put your money towards a set of rotora's or brembo's. better yet- buy a 40 and a blunt and find a cheap hooker.

Your decision, go for it if you want. It's your car.

i was thinkin' my wheels would look real good in gunmetal, w/ blue calipers, no it won't look retarded, but that would depend on how well you painted it, if u do a rice job it won't look good at all

get brembo's or Bear brakes. painting serves the same reason as putting on graphics. if you do them right, it "might" look good, otherwise it will look like shit. unlike graphics, you cant remove paint easily. so "Caveat Emptor"

hey andrew... you should look at the post by dickswhip00GS over in the gas thread. although he's an asshole, you should deffinently take care of you'r internals because "before you can go to a show you have to go"

I have seen many rusty looking calipers and drums, that just look nasty, over the years. I've never been a fan of painting stock calipers some flashy color like blue, yellow or red. However, I feel that if someone takes the time to paint them nicely, painting them black, maybe silver depending on the car color, can look nice. If certianly looks better than rusty stuff or the ugly look most OEm calpers have. It's all in the prep work. You want to make sure they are very clean before you paint them and remove any rust by sanding it off or using a stiff wire brush.

As for $25, where did you get that price. VHT's spray can Brake caliper paint is around $7.99 a can max. Dulicoor makes a brush on "kit" that is around $14.99. I know people that have used both types, usually in black. For the spray can, you need the calipers off the car. For the Dulicolor brush on, you can jack the car up and paint it on the car. You need to mask everything off well. As long as you take your time, it should look decent. It's really not hard. Just take your time and don't rush it and it will turn out. Also, don't apply the paint too thick or it will run, but thats about it. I think a nice suttle color like black would look good. Not too flashy, but much better than hte cheap stock cast iron type look. Saying get brembo's or Bears is a nice idea, but if someone only desires a decent looking caliper that doesn't look like cast iron or worse, rusty, painting them black can do the trick and provide a cleaner look. IMO, painting calipers a suttle color like black is not like putting graphics on a car. It's like painting a bumper. It serves the purpose of providing a finished look to the calipers. Saying get Brembo's or Bear brakes is a nice suggestion, and they most certianly stop better, but that's a heck of a lot of money. If someone doesn't need the extra power, and on;y wants a clean finished look on th caliper, spending that much $$ is a waste. After all, think about it. WHY do Brembo, bear and the other Big brake companies powercoat or paint THEIR calipers? For the same reason you paint ANY calipers (stock or otherwise), to give them a little protection and a finished look. Does this make Brembo, Bear, and Rotora retarded for painting their calipers? Of course not, they'd be dumb to leave their calipers looking like unfinished crap.

Painting claipers may not be up everyones alley, but don't say it's retarded and dumb if he does it. Maybe all he wants a cleaner, more finished look on his calipers. It would not be advisable for someone in that situation to buy a high priced Big Brake kit JUST for the "painted caliper look.":2cents:

I just read what dickswhip00gs wrote. For his information i run Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my GT and premium gas. Ya and i change the oil myself (unlike morons who go down to Monikee) every 3000 miles. I also use a fram oil filter.

So i do take care of my internals and i dont got a lot of cash so i was thinking bout painting my calipers cause i got lots of time but little cash.

So dont tell me that i need to take care of my car just because you have a GS

yea there is a way to have them painted bad ass but you have to doit the right way spray degreaser on the calipers let it sit for a few rhen brush that bitch down with an aluminum brush then wash it let it dry, get a paint spray can that it stands heat and that comes with paint and clear doing nicely cover the disks so you dont get any spray paint on the disk or on the car make sure theres no wind and wallah. A good brand I heard is rust-oleum for spray paint i got 2 friends that did it to there impala looks bad ass!!!!!!
