How intensive/how much would it cost to rebuild a 3.8? I'm seeing waht my options are when the time comes.

for just a simple rebuild your looking at new rings, new bearings, have the heads refreshed, have the cylinders bored depending on milage, and a new oil pump. probly around $800-1000 for just a basic rebuild. if you want new buckets, lifters, pushrods, cam etc. it'll be closer to $1500-2000. just an estimate

that's doin it yourself but it's just an estimate on parts cost.
here's just a ball park figure for price, some might be more or less
rings-$100
bearings-$100
oil pump-$100
boring-$60-80 most places around here charge $8 per hole to bore and $4 per hole to hone
head work-$150
gaskets and seals-$150
other parts like new head bolts, sealants, fluids etc. $100-200
