Well, the obvious way is to get going a decent clip and come onto the brakes. If you don't have it, the tires will likely lock up and squeal. If you do, you will probably feel a rapid pulsation in the brake pedal, which is the ABS system working. If you do this, make sure it's on an empty road.

If you have abs when you turn the key to the on position an indicator light will come on that says ABS in the dash. It will go out after a few seconds being that it comes on only as a bulb check. If you don't see this light then you don't have ABS, or the bulb is blown. If you're going to try what boosted said, wait until the ground is wet so you don't risk damaging something or wearing your tires excessively, but his idea would work too.

Also check in ur manual, it has a picture that shows the shocks and has a wire coming down it to the brakes, if u dont have that wire in the pic, then u dont have abs

The simplest way would be to remove the lid from the under hood fuse panel and see if you have an ABS fusiblelink(basically a large fuse) in there. If so then you most likely have abs. If not then you dont.

Well if you slide, you'll have to pump the brakes to stop sooner...that's all that ABS does is pump the brakes for you basically, except it can do it up to 24 times a second whereas you may be able to do it once per second. The only purpose of ABS is to control wheel slip when the brakes are applied, without it you have to do it yourself.

My Stealth doesnt have abs and I have driven in the snow two years now. I havent had one issue. You just have to learn your limits.

what are the limits? besides speeding and driving reckless.

Thats just it, everyones limits differ. I have driven in winter for 8 years now so I can pretty much handle my own. One winter I was drivng a 86 Mustang and had no issues making it anywhere. I stopped and helped several FWD people who couldnt get anywhere because they didnt know how to drive in the snow. Its all in throttle control.

No problems at all. Just make sure you have good treads on the car and you can go almost anywhere.

I hate ABS esp in the snow. On dry pavement it has helped me, but in the snow it made me slide through an intersection, and at a different time into a wall.

With ABS if one side of you car is on ice and the other is on pavement you arent stoping, because your car is just going to pump the bakes for you every time the tires on the ice stop spinning.
