This sucks balls. I can't find a 240 anywhere. Any year. Practically any price. Not in the newspapers, not on the internet. I dunno where else to look. It doesn't help that I live at least an hour away from anywhere you could remotely call a big city. I don't think there's anything that can be done or anywhere else to look, but maybe there's something I don't know?

I'm in good 'ole more-cows-than-people Wytheville, Virginia. It's mainly located in the southwest portion of virginia sandwiched between West Virginia and North Carolina. Most of the 240s that I could afford end up being too far way. Anyways, hope that helps.

Don't I know about that. The big deal is, i'm in college, I'm still driving my parents' car, which is a 1992 Chevy Camaro (automatic!!!grrr!!!!!!!!), and I really want to be able to do something with a car of my own. And it's been years that I've been looking for a car period, intensively for at least the past 6 months, not always for a 240, but ya know. And my dad usually finds me nothing to look at but old Cadillacs and domestics. Ahhhh, this is hell, lol.

I hear ya rpgmage, im driving a 97 GMC Sierra z71 until I find a car. Ive looked through Eclipses, Integras, and Talons but in the end I come up with two cars that im watching out for: 240sx and an MR2.
rpgmage_86

Hah, crazy. That's pretty much exactly what I'm watching for. Even though I don't like how short the mr2 looks, mid-engine intrigues me. I don't care if rwd isn't good for the snow, I hate front wheel drive.

Well, you could have been hit by a 240SX. That not only would have sucked more but it would have been hilariously ironic.

That actually kinda reminds me of my famed ...dun dun dun
SOMETIMES THE WORLD SUCKS
moment of the month.
So, I'm driving home from college, which is in town, and I'm minding my own business. WHEN, I see, out of the corner of my eye, a pretty shiny, kinda nice looking car pulling out of the sonic. Now, it didn't take me tooo long to notice that it was a zenki (i think that's the right terminology, 97-98 240). So my first reaction was "whoa" it's my semi dream car. So, even though I shouldn't have, I look up to see who's driving it and it's this son-of-a-*^%(* like 30-year-old dude driving with his girlfriend, probably. Sometimes the world sucks. Why should he get to drive a car like that, when you know he's not doing anything to it to fulfill its potential. He'll just run up 150000 miles or so and then sell it for 6000 like it's worth that much. Ok, I think i feel better now.

Is there any particular good place to look? Newspapers? Internet ads? Just going to a bigger area and looking around?

americanclassifieds.com is where I found mine it is the only place that I could find one with a crapped out engine :) my RB25 should be here next week. but ya keep looking and when you find one jump on it I was lucky got mine for $300 89 A/t HB. with one ok size dent passenger rear. so good luck remember you can always change out trans, through in a diff drop in power windows or take them out and save 8 pounds.

just drive the engine to the ground and do an auto to manual with a sr or RB conversion.
Broke_as_****
11-08-2004, 01:00 AM
Well you could sell it so someone else who wants an automatic can enjoy it or just do the swap and not screw up an engine that doesn't have to get screwed up so someone getting into low level racing or just looking for a lower mileage engine so they can keep another 240SX out on the road instead of in a junkyard rotting can get a KA24 for cheap.
But maybe thats me.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I must sum it up a little better here. Last time I checked, which was probably Saturday, www.autotrader.com provided me with a whopping 3 240s within 100 or so miles of me. I knew that one was an old link that had already got sold, and the other two were automatic or had over at least 130000. cars.com doesn't find ANY 240s within 100 miles. It has to be relatively close because dad HAS TO look at it with me before I buy it, seeing as he holds half of my car buying money. To make things worse, he's a chevy man, meaning he's not too into imports in the first place, much less my stories about engine/transmission swaps. And for that matter, I want somehthing with low miles so that I know it hasn't been run the hell out. And it generally should be stock so that I know some ricer hasn't already "pimped" it out. Grr, I can't stand that, that'll probably be my next "sometimes the world sucks" column. Anyway, that's what i'm up against.

uhh his dad has the money so he couldnt do that.......anyways dude these cars are old, pretty much all of them are going to have a good amount of miles on them.....maybe a newer s14 will have low miles but i dont know how much money you have and i doubt you'll find one.

Well, while I would love to have a project vehicle, and I really don't think sinking tons of money into a fwd considering all of the performance disadvantages, I am in college and, as such, am restricted on the amount of money I can spend at all. So, *gasp*, I may just have to buy a car to get me through college! A fwd! *pauses a moment to throw up* Phew, okay. But if I do take this route, you can bet your bottom dollar that there'll be an even more awesome project car awaiting me when I can afford something really worth putting some money into that doesn't require a lot of initial maintenance work. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions, and we'll see what happens.
