Clutch Instalation?

Hi, I need to get a clutch installed in my 90 Talon tsi awd turbo. A guy said he would do it for me for around 250-300. He said that awd clutches are very hard to install. IS this true? And is 250-300 a good price? I thought it was a high price for an install because this is not a garage, its just a guy who wants to do work for me. Also ACT 2100, ACT 2600, Or centerforce df. Which one is the best in your opinion? Thanks.

There's quite a bit to a clutch job, and $250-300 sounds about like what someone should charge for it. Hell, my buddy has a long time friend that did his clutch job for him, and still charged him $100 for it.
As for which clutch kit to get, it all depends on your goals. Act 2100 is generally for a lightly modded (mid to high 13's) dsm, and the Act 2600 is generally for those wanting to put more power down (low 12's, launching often). The centerforce is kind in the middle of the two Act clutches. Make sure you either resurface your flywheel correctly or get a new one. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/clutchandflywheeltech.htm << a good write-up that describes proper flywheel resurfacing/stepping. I wont do an AWD clutch for less than 300. Its not much harder, just more time consuming. You wont find a shop anywhere that will do it for less either. And 2Gs are usually 50 bucks more than 1Gs! 2g AWD clutch jobs suck.

I just did mine in my auto shop class and it took me a month since i only worked on it 1 hour a day and now i get to do it again :banghead: my clutch wont disengauge and it wont go into gear i guess i will find out whats wrong when i pull it back out i would sugest that you get a mechanic that knows what they are doing prolly go to a dealer and get it worked on. even though it will be a dent in your wallet you will know for sure that it will be done correctly and they can prolly do it in a day

Im sorry for draging up this really old thread but i was just owundering somthing.
im about to have my Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch installed and the flywheel resurfaced and he will install my A/F - OIL - Boost guages and my MBC for like somewhere around 500-600$......is this way over priced ?? the guy thats doing it is suposed to know his stuff when it comes to DSM's so i was woudering if the price was ok?

before ripping everything back out again, make sure it's not something simple. like the slave/master cylinder. make sure there is plenty of fluid in the master and make sure the slave is fully pushing the release fork. try bleeding it too, it might help...if that's not it then it sounds like a t/o bearing/pressure plate problem.
as for doing the clutch swap yourself, don't pay anyone for it man. i have a write up on how to do it. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=389253
read that thoroughly along with the replies, and if you still don't feel confident enough then you might want to consider paying someone to do it. i know the writeup i have is for 2nd gens, but it's basically all the same. where do you live at? if by some chance you live near me, i'd do it for you for $150. but trust me man, if you want to know more about these cars and gain experience, doing it yourself will be the best thing.

in my opinion that's WAY over priced considering you could do it yourself and not pay anyone a dime :) the gauges are kind of a pain in the ass, but not hard, just time consuming. as for the centerforce, that is an easy clutch to install once you get the tranny dropped and shit because you don't have to align the clutch. it comes in one assembly. i'm not sure if they used a certain kind of glue or what, but the whole thing just bolts right up to the flywheel. although it's not hard using the alignment tool, it just makes it more convenient. as for the flywheel you can get it resurfaced at a machine shop for $25 - $30. make sure you get it to the right height, it's imperitive on these cars.
