Other than me and two of my friends that don't post much anymore, I haven't met any kart racers on this site.

I'm not a kart racer but heres something. I am planning on making a go kart as my first automotive realted project. Would it be possible to have two honda v-twins in the back. One for each wheel. Each v-twin produces 26 HP and 33 ft/lbs of torque. They each weigh 100 pounds I weigh 230 lbs and the kart would probably weigh 100lbs. Total wheight would be about 530. Could I use the gears of a bike for the engines. I am planning on Using one engine for 1-3 gears and another one for 3-6. Could I use the gear ratios of a honda transmission or should I go higher. I think the kart could be pretty fast. Maybe I should just use one engine and make just one axle for both wheels in the back. I'm really excited about this project but I doubt that I'm doing it with honda v-twins because they are $1,100 each. What would you expect of this little kart. Would it be able to burn out or out accelerate a d15b7 civic.

I run my kart on the track, but I've never raced it. I run at willow springs and buttonwillow.

95dxcivic, it's better to just use a 125cc motor from a honde/yamaha/suzuki dirtbike. The motor is pretty lightweight, and can make more than 40 HP. A basic 125cc shifter kart will already be faster than a d16 powered civic ;)

im starting in go kart racing this next season, we're getting a rotax kart, and if we're successful we'll be going into shifter karts, and continure with that, the track we have near us is blackrock raceway, its really nice and its out in Utah dont know if anyone else has been, but the company thats selling the kart to us has said its one of the best in the western US

i've only raced on rented karts... like at Bondurant or F1RaceFactory

they're a blast to drive, but i'm not sure i could get into it as a hobby. i'll stick to AutoX and other solo events for now.

I race on oval tracks, there really aren't any road courses in Iowa. I'm in the IKF and next year I plan on going for the regional points championship.

hey, yeah i race karts! only just noticed this new forum. im glad it finally got sorted :)

i race at my local track with my own 100cc 2-cycle kart. im a mid-field runner at the moment, but my experience is very limited so i think im doing ok considering. i cant afford to run my kart next year as the rule changes within my class have cost me a lot of money. so i will be racing for my university in the BUKC (british university karting championship) next year driving karts quite similar to my own.

I found a couple pictures of my favorite of the karts I used to race. This one is an Emick Cobra with a kt100 yamaha. I ran both sportsman class and the 100cc yamaha which is the same engine with a tuned pipe for much more power.

I used to race karts too. Started in 87 and raced regularly for 3 years and off and on for another 5-6.

Now I race in SCCA club racing in IT.

I started with karting when I was 6 or 7 years old! Mostly rental karting! When I got 13 i bought a twin engine kart (4stroke) and practiced a lot. And now since 2 years I have a Biland SA 250, with an RVF chassis! I did some competitions but there weren't enough competitors! Now i mostly kart for fun or do some endurance races with some friends! I'm planning to sell my kart and buy another one. I'm thinking of buying a rotax max with the CRG or Birel chassis, or another biland (have some probs now) also with a good chassis! And I will probably start racing again with it! Maybe here in Belgium, maybe in Germany or France, I don't know yet!

I raced karts for 22 years strong. I have been to several nationals throughout the united states. We also used to build motors full time in our shop. our shop is a 1575 sq. ft. shop with a lathe, mill, hone,etc... and inventory from yamaha;s to pcr's to horstman, l&t. it goes on forever. Our company was Murphy Bros. Racing. We are out of salinas, CA and still put on kart races at a local airport. I was sponsered by Cal-Kart (invader karts), High rev engineering HRE karts and also tri star (suits, shoes and gloves.) and franklin motorsports (PCR). I raced super stock heavy, reed and rotary heavy. I have won 14 track championships, 78 I.K.F regional races, 12 I.K.F. class championships and numerous races. Our motor business was called "Peninsula Motors" and I sure miss those days more than anything. It was only five years ago since I have raced. But it feels like an eternity. any ways hope I didnt bore you too much see ya later

I race oval asphalt karts. My son was ranked 2nd in WKA National point standings in 06 and 07. He was number 1 in the state (PA) both years also. We didn't run nationals last year because of fuel costs.

I don't race but my 9 year old does. He raced kid karts the last two year. We just bought a Rotax Minimax he'll start racing this season. It's going to be a big jump, but I think he can handle it.
