custom ram air

I want to make a custom ram air for my car, but I am worried about problems. Like bugs, water, leaves, rocks,... mainly water. Can anybody who has ever built a custom ram air to come out at the front bumper tell me what kind of problems it caused, and how to deal with them. Thanks.. Rick

The setup you're talking about might be too much air. All the air that you are getting will become usless if you still use the stock MAFS.

so youre saying it wont make a difference?

well the thing is, I dont have any money right now, so I was gonna just take a few bucks and buy some pvc, and some screen. its gotta make some kinda difference, right? Well, for future reference, could someone tell me the issues Id have to deal with?

i just made a custom short ram air intake on my ralliart. it definitely sounds better, get better mid/high end horsepower but idles like crap! i'm guessing this is because my mass air flow senser doesn't know what the crap is going on. correct? can i upgrade the mafs? can i put a different resistor in it? tuners help...thanks!

Well the stock MAF is god awful, stuff gets stuck in there and it just messes up everything. There is a Lightning MAF that a lot of tuners have been using. It is much bigger than the stock one. But it requires a little bit of work to change. check out TCCOA.com for a full article on how to do it.

yep. The Lightning 90mm MAF is what all the "quick" MN12 guys are usin. Just remember, when you change out your MAF, it messes up your computer, so you will need to have it tuned.

The 90mm maf is typically too big for our cars. Unless you have serious upgrades (like a Kenne Bell Blowzilla supercharger) you really don't need much above 70mm coupled with a 65mm TB. Whatever MAF you use, it needs to be calibrated for your injector size.

oh, man.. thats too much for me, I dont know about all that. Somebody would really have to break it down for me from the ground up before I would understand why. (about calibrating it for the injector size) I can understand about having too big of a MAF though.
