Hey, i just bought an 84 camaro with the 2.8L V6. Over the winter i will be swapping with a 305 ho, but i need some help now.
When i bought the car the guy thought the crank was gone in the v6, but after looking at it i found out the the flywheel came loose and cracked, and messed the end of the starter up. So, for now i want to fix the v6 to drive for a couple of months, but i have a few questions.
I found 2 junked camaros, one with a 2.8L and one with an old blown up 350. Does anyone know if the 350 flywheel would fit my v6? The junked 2.8L has all the parts, but both cars in in the woods and the transmission is out of the 350 so it would be alot easier to get the flywheel off that if it would work.
I know it probably won't, but i just want to know for sure before i go through all the work of getting at the other car.
Also, how much work is it to swap with an old carbrated 305? I have everything i need. Well i have the front part of the frame with the engine still mounted in it.
well thats all for now, any help at all would be appriciated.
Thanks,

i dotn thnk the 350 flywheel will work but double check that... but y r u goin to swap it to a 305...wont a 350 swap into the old v6 and it is much easier to get power from a 350.. jus my opionon. but a 305 swap should be pretty easy.

Oh i know a 350 would be better. The only reason i'm going with a 305 is because it came with the car when i bought it. It was my girlfriends fathers car and he thought the v6 was shot, so he bought the 305 for it. So when i bought it i checked the flywheel and saw that it was loose and cracked, as well as the starter being chewed up.
So i want to get a flywheel and starter as easily as possible to see if that was the main problem. However if i can get 350 for a good price around here i'd love to have one.

 HI well to answer that the fly wheels won't match up because of the crankshaft end size.So get the one out of the other car.If you got $50 bucks it would be better just 2 but one.

yeah, flywheels arent that expencive, and you dont know the condition of the used part, in most cases i would go with the junkyard parts, but for this, i would say get a new one.

Yesh, i know they arn't too expensive, and then you know what you have. But the used parts are free, i just have to haul everything apart, and i have never done that so i don't know what to do and how long it would take. I don't wnat to spend too much money on it because i want to swap it for the 305. I'd just like to know how the v6 works so i'd have an extra motor.
Thanks, for the replys. If someone would like to tell me what i have to take aprt to get the starter and flywheel from the other car, and what tools i need that would be great.
Thanks

Well thats easy ,all u need is a couple good jacks and basic hand tools.Pull the trans and have a budy with a brakeover bar on the crank while u brake the flywheel bolts loose, and pop it off.

Ok, thanks. I just have to figure out what tools to take before i go try to do it because it is in the middle of nowhere, and i want to do it all at once. What holds the tranny in? mounts?

Ok, do you know if the starter comes off the bottom or top? What do you have to take off to get to it? How many bolts, etc. I know these are stupid questions, but i don't have much time lately and i have to get all the info i can before tackleing the cars...thanks

Well well u will need a 5/8,1/2,9/16,3/8,brakeover barr, and a scewdriver. The starter comes off from the bottom.there should be 8 bellhoueing bolts 4 to 6 small bolts on the dust cover.3 bolts on the toqure converter, and one bolt on the trans mount and 4 on the crossmember and 4 on the drive shaft at the pumpkin, by the those are 7/16.the flywheel bolts not sure what size they r but maybe 5/8 or a little bigger. Thats pretty much it .
