Just bought an Eclipse (pics Included)

I got this car about a lil over a month ago.. I started working like 80 hours a week so I didn't really have time to do anything with it till now...
I got this car for $1500. I want a 2G, but I needed a car to get me to school and work. The Interior and Exterior are in okay shape.. But i'm having problems with the Engine..When i start the car It sounds like the car is about to die. It constantly revs up and down like its gonna shut off. I also noticed that the belts turn slow then fast.. then slow.. (you can see it slow down then speed up, then slow down).. Like 5 minutes after starting the car it it all of a sudden turns into a normal sound engine. But, When i drive the car, It jumps wicked bad.. especially when it gets past 3500 RPMS (for some reason the car won't let me drive past 3500 Rpms without shifting).. I know thats not normal... Now i have a Question about my exhaust.. The guy I bought this from told me that it was an Exhaust system... not just the Muffler.. take a look at these pics and give me your opinion.... Does this look like a exhaust system or was this guy Bullshiting me??

Is your check engine light on?
Change your plugs and wires, that can be one of the problems. it looks like someone was playing with the cables inside the engine bay :rolleyes:

edit: about the headers, is not a bad idea to change it, before you something else brake inside the engine.
and the exhaust it looks like the stock with a muffler at the end

yeah man they definatly looks like he just had a muffler welded on. the rpm spikes up and down till it warms up right? i think your problem might be the ics (idle control sensor). im not sure were its located on a 1g or how much one cost maybe someone else will have more insight then me. gl and welcome to the forum

Thanks for the feedback... To tell you the truth, The car sounds nice.. it has a deep sound, not that high pitched squeal that alot of civics around here have.... I believe the guy when he told me it was a system till i happened to look under the car a week after i bought it. I really don't know shit about engine work.. I don't know if i should do a diagnostics test or what..

its either the ISC (idle speed control) or your FIAV (fast idle air valve). brand new they are $$ from the dealer!


there is a company that sells block off plates for them, they are really nice. i use one and my idle is perfect, the only thing that sucks is if its cold out the car doesnt warm up as fast unless you have your foot on the gas reving it up to 1500 or something.

what it does is gets rid of the whole bottom end of the throttle body, no more coolant flows thru, no more ISC or FIAV. and the best thing about it is no check engin light and the idle is perfect (although you do have to mess with the BISS to get it perfect!) here is a picture of the block off plate.

if anyone wants one of these let me know... they are fairly cheap IIRC (under $50)

This is a CNC'd 1/4 thick FIAV/ISC block off plate. This is part of the first group in and the rest will be anodized blue and have a laser etched logo on them. Fits the DSM and 3S Throttle Bodies.

i did!.. i emailed you a month ago telling you i didn't get it and that you should send it to a different address to see if it'll actually get here... i thought you went on vacation or just kinda ignored me or something. DAMN IT!! i ama cry!
