95 Cutlass Check engine light code

I have a 95 Cutlass Ciera and the Check Engine Light is on. I think it is the OBD 1. I took it to Autozone and they tried to use a jumer on it and the light would not blink. The Terminal only has 3 wires to it. Is a scanner the only way to get the code ?
