I thought it would be nice to go there. I mailed with Jean Paul (JP'sCelica) and he told me it was military stuff and airplanes in general but also quiet some car modeling stuff.
Seemed interesting so I went there today. IT TOTALLY S*CKED!!! I'm not mad, not at all, but I'm very, very disapointed. :disappoin :disappoin :disappoin There were about 25-30 car models in the entire building! I've seen one stand with loads of kits, all cars and bikes. Mostly Tamiya. They were all way overprised. The contest was pretty nice. There were about 20 cars and (hold tight) 3 bikes! Rest was all militairy stuff. Now don't get me wrong, I've got enormous respect for the guys that build military vehicles and stuff and they all looked great, but I'm not interested in them at all!
So what's my clue? Well, especially for the Dutch guys, when you're interested in cars and/or bikes (like lots of people here) don't go there! There's nothing to see there. I also would like to ask Jean Paul not to tell people there's quiet some car modeling, because there ain't. I better surf 30 minutes on AF and I'll see more and mostly better looking cars then I did there.
Thanks for reading, I just needed to say this.

Well, too bad to hear that, but hey, you have to know that most modelers are IMO Military modelers, and still we -car/bike modelers-are stepmotherly looked at.
But hey, next time you want to go to a nice meeting with nice lotsa cars and trucks, go to "on the road" in Jabbeke , near Bruges.

Or bring your own models and ask your friends to bring their models so that there are more cars and bikes on display.

Seems your approach is opposite what would really work or really help. If you're a builder, take your stuff to show. Do you only expect to go to a model show to be entertained? Sometimes YOU have to be the entertainment! As someone else stated, get you and your friends interested, and fill the tables. Telling people to stay away isn't doing anyone any good. Tell the promoters to promote! It was announced here on A/F, but where else??

Maybe it is a nice idea indeed, to ask some other dutch modelers to go there with some models... Maybe I'll do that.
Olivier, thanks for the advise. Sounds better then the IPMS :D When is that show? Internetsite?

Hold on a second, I went there too... 30 cars in contest? I think it was more then 50.
30 cars in "from the box"
4 bikes
10 in race cars 1/24 and 1/20
5 or 6 in +1/20
2 in diorama
10+ in 1/24 modified (not in from the box)
and a truck or 4
So to say it was crap? :screwy: You've got to be kidding? IPMS Belgium was with 4!! car models in the whole contest a joke, but this one??
I drove 2 hours from Belgium to there and did I enjoy it? you bet!! will I go back? sure I will. 10 euros for a Tamiya F1 kit overpriced? I would call that cheap! It's the money I paid for a F1-2000 ClearView Tamiya... I'm not even sure if you went to Nieuwegein at all, or you must have left way to early. Jean Paul is a great guy, and he should tell there is quite some car models to see. 60+ cars on a IPMS show, is frigging good indeed.
...
and as a former IPMS Belgium president I think I can speak here. Sure IPMS is a lot of military, but the Dutch guys did a very good job and they promoted it well. And for sure they are trying hard to get the car modelers on their side. But with an attitude like yours, they will have to fight an uphill struggle. Rethink again because making a show good, first and foremost is up to each individual. My question to you to start with: did you bring any car models yourself?
this picture was only part of the contest... there already 38 or so on it.

Well, nice to hear some people enjoyed it. You're correct it were a little more, but it's not even close to what I expected.
I don't like F1 cars, so I didn't check that one out, but buying an Tamiya Enzo for 45 Euro's (for instance) comon, I'll buy that one for 35 Euro's from HLJ including shipment!!! Furthermore, I walked around and most of the companies there were selling military stuff. I was searching for maybe some nice PE parts, decals, wheels, wings etcetera. Nothing was there.
To answer your last question, I've to admit I didn't bring any models with me. If you've read my replys you would have seen I'll try to get a group of modelers together and take a few models with us per person.
So, don't worry, don't mind my attitude, next year I'll be there, hopefully with some other guys, and we'll show that military guys something

Well, how's that for a change. First nothing is good and then afterwards it's like "well, I didn't check this, didn't look there." :uhoh:
it's probably because you were in a negative mood that you didn't see the guy - I think it was raceworld - he had S27 stuff, decals, PE sets you name it. And all resonably priced. And don't wine about prices in Europe being more expensive then in Japan. They are and they always will be. So keep on ordering there and hope that customs will not intercept and make you pay the double for that kit. ;)
Anyway, good to hear that you will come next year as well. And for sure, we should make more noise about it so that we can even attract more models and that the quality of the contest is pushed once again. ;)
We from the DePaddock.net (http://forum.depaddock.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=9) are even thinking of giving a special award next year for the best car or something like that.

Hey, any contest that has Huddo's Hyundai and Sennake's 512 in it can't be too bad! :)

Hello Bas,
mnnnnnn, what can I say? I'm sorry you had a bad day. I don't hope you have an eye problem, I counted about 75 models, the quality of most models were good / excellent. Ofcourse there were models who could be better, but hey those guys were showing of there work and you must respect that!
Huudo, thanks for your kinds words!
I hope to see you all next year!
Next year I will do again some promotion work for the Dutch Nationals, Bas I hope you will do the same! So take your models and friends next year to the Nationals, so more carmodels will be in the contest, perhaps then it will do some right to your expertations.
Take care
