Car Enthusiast vs Hoon

So I am just wondering if anyone else out there is annoyed at these titles. If you are young and under the age of I dont know say 25 / 26 or even 30 you are considered a HOON
if you have a nice done up car. If you are older than this, and you have a nice done up car you are considered a CAR ENTHUSIAST
I believe this is a crock. I mean seriously. All the people that I know that have done things to there cars, are proud of the work they have done. They take care of their cars, and most of the things done (ie suspension, brakes, etc) DO make the car safer. Okay so they go "crusing" and some of the younger guys do silly things like burnouts and things, but to me honest most of my friends (who are around the age of 20-25) dont do burnouts. Yeh they go crusing and on occasions race their cars, but they take pride in their cars. They do modifications to the car, but most are to make it safer (and faster too I guess).
What is YOUR opinion on all this.............and should we ALL be generalised and penalised into one catergory of a HOON, just becuase the minority out there act like idiots..

yeah you bring up a good point,
its just that younger people are ore likely to muck about with their cars because
1) there young
2)unless your a pussy, you have done a burnout, because your experimenting with a vehicle for the first time
3) younger people make great scapegoats

Nope, never under any circumstances done a burnout. I haven't raced yet, so I haven't had to warm my tyres, and I see no point whatsoever in doing them on the street.

I have never heard the term HOON in my life...so I suppose I can't take offense at being called one.
P.S. When you start feeling as if your penis doesn't quite measure up, do a burnout. Either that or buy a lift kit and Flowmasters for your Dodge Ram...

I think if you sit there and analyze it and make non-existant names labelling other people, you're a geeky fag, but that's just my opinion.

Yes I do care. and you know why. Because their are ALOT of WANKERS out there who bitch about HOONS, and in doing so, we get labelled so. I am NOT A HOON. I love cars, I love Modified cars, but I dont do burnouts, I dont race unneccesarily, I dont drive fast. 99.9% of the time I have my 3 year old in the car, so I wouldnt dare do these things, YET I still get labelled a hoon, just because I drive a modified car. Where is the fairness in that????

Obviously you've never heard the term 'male speed limit'. Whatever the sign says, plus 10%, plus 5km/h.
Eg. 60 + 10% = 66km/h +5km/h = 71km/h (male speed limit).

Reading your profile, you don't live in the US. Here guys like to show off to their friends by doing burnouts. It's a very common thing in the US.

Let's see, story in summary:
July 2004:
Was driving down our right of way at about 60 Km/h, went for a 90 degree right hander, wet road + gravel, well you can imagine what happened next.
Started to understeer a bit (Car going too fast for turn)
I went for the brakes and since they're not Anti-lock, I locked up the front wheels (Pushed a little too hard on the pedal when I was pumping)
Ended up straight through a brick wall which I pulverised.
Point was I was driving too fast for the conditions.
EDIT: My tyres would also fail a Warrant of Fitness test (But I think back then they still had a bit of tread in them

That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard of. Burnouts = hoons/ricers. They're usually most likely to street race, which is a stupid recreational activity.

poor civic :(
i've had more than a few close calls with understeer, 1600kg of Diamante barge sliding nose-first towards a guard rail at 90 km/h is no fun at all.
As for the topic of the thread...of course it's up to you but I wouldnt waste my time worrying about what some self-righteous tossers think of you..why would you care about the opinion of someone who doesn't know you and decides to judge you by the type of car you drive?
But most young whipper snappers are hoons though. :o Stereotypes and prejudices have a basis in reality
Most people I know with modified performance cars (MR2 GT-S, Golf GTI, Integra type-R etc) worked hard to get them, and as a result treat them with care, don't thrash them, and drive fairly sensibly...On the other hand a guy I know just got served his 3rd court summons for a driving-related charge in 2 years...he drives a Galant GLXi

standard driver thinking - 'I am a driving god, but the rest of you are idiots.'
The people who complain about hoons are also the people who grizzle like buggery every time they come up behind someone who wants to go slower than them.........
Just one request for the 'enthusiasts' who like to push their cars beyond the limits of physics and /or the limits of their driving abilities......
Please don't do it on the street. and with that in mind...

Ahh some far to rare common ground with Mr. T. If you think your driving skills are "the shiz", go to a solo II event so everyone can laugh when you
A. Go too fast and slide out through the cones
B. Avoid sliding it by turning in consistent lap times a minute or more over that of your nearest competitors.
You aren't as skillful as you think you are, the quicker you realize that the sooner you can start getting better.
