J-Body blower climate control disease

Well it finally happened... The first three settings on the fan control do nothing, but it will turn on when put to the last setting (max). I've seen/worked on numerous j-bodies with this problem, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows how to fix the problem. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you have the dreaded blower resistor syndrome. This is common on GM vehicles and is relatively easy to fix. Go to the dealer and get a blower resistor for your vehicle. Find the fan, usually under the dash, the resistor is located close to the fan. Remove the fan and resistor, replace the resistor, replace fan, disease cured.

I'm in agreement with GTP, it's your blower resistor that ails your j-car.

I think there was a thread a while back about how and where to change the blower resistor, it tells exactly how to change it
but i'm pretty sure that GTP has it down to a science... :grinyes:
i have the same roblem, just too lazy to fix it....

the fan is in the passenger compartment, below the glove compartment, the resistor is on the back of the motor. not to bad to get to really, get a haynes manual and it tells you how to do the check of the resistor, and how to replace it. unless your cheap, then I'll copy and paste my Haynes for you.
