i was just in an accident with my 99 gtp.It was head on and my air bags didn't go off.i was going 70km when it happened.that doesn't sound right to me,i got a nice kiss from the steering wheel and the locks on my seat backs didn't lock so my seat flopped forward.i was alittle disappointed with how my car reacted.shouldn't of the air bags went off?

If you hit head on the air bags should have worked. Did you purchase this used or new? Sometimes some shady dealers will remove the air bags from the car and sell them and when they are needed they obviously will not work. If you purchased the car new then you need to contact GM concerning the fact that they did not work. There could be a flaw in the system. I would also notify the Canadian safety authority that governs vehicle safety of the problem so they are aware that the bags did not work especially if there were no other issues with the air bags.

i got the car from a dealership with 22000km on it.one of the sales men bought the car new and then decided to sell it cause he needed a 4 door.it was a gm dealer though.

nighthawk 6, i'm sorry you were in an accident. i'm glad you lived to tell us about it! I hope you are going to be okay. How bad is the car? I've been telling everyone how safe the Grand Prix's are. I have a '98. I never heard of the airbag problem before. Please let us know the outcome of your complaint. Thanks.

ya well i bought the car cause of the safety ratings, but i was really unhappy about the airbags not going off.my insurance company told me that its cause the sensors weren't hit but the front end is smashed right in and the damage is up to $9100 so i'm not satisfied with that answer.

Are they going to repair it or consider it totaled? Our daughter had accident recently in the 2000 Bonneville. Insurance said it was not totaled, it was repairable. They only gave us rental car coverage for 20 days, and the Bonne was in the shop 42 days getting repaired!!! And it is still not right, and has to go back in again for more!!! We were stuck with a $700 rental car bill even after negotiating a lower rental rate with the rental car place. I am still mad because it was the insurance's idea to fix it and not total it, but it took so long to fix! They kept having to order more and more parts and get approval from the insurance! It still pulls to the right, and the paint does not match. Ughh!

There is a sensor for the air bag. When it goes out, not from an accident, but just out. If you look at the sterling wheel, where the air bag is, it looks flat. It's doesn't have that dome look. The part even at the dealer is cheap. But the air bag will not go off without it. I would say yours is bad before this happened. I know, the when on my 97 was bad. Service guy at the dealer catch it. They replaced for free.

Well with Car Fax, they won't either. Check the middle of your wheel. If it's soft, have them fix it.
