I have a 97 z28 with the b4c special service package in it that I use as my daily driver. To date I have not done any mods to it but my end goal is to get about 400rwhp. This is not something I am going to be taking to the track, I just want to have fun with it every once and a while. I have been seeing a lot of talk about people swapping to the 1le drive shaft. My question is if I wanted to swap out my drive shaft, which one would be good for the hp I want to produce. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

aluminum. since you have the b4c package i would imagine that it comes with the 1LE driveshaft, but its easy to find out. look under the car and if the driveshaft is all rusted and nasty lookin, you got a steel one. if its silver and somewhat nice lookin you have an aluminum one.

i know that moser engineering sells 3in, 3.5in, and 4in shafts. those come complete with u-joints, but i think that for some applications you need your own yoke. not sure you can check out their site for more info.

also lingenfelter sells a 3.5in aluminum shaft that comes on their camaro package for like 350. you can look into those options and im sure there are more but i havent looked for driveshafts very much...

The LS1 or 1LE shaft should hold up for your as long as you dont rape it at the track with hard launches. The 1LE shaft does have the larger diameter like the 1LE but it has a thicker wall and is stronger.

If your going to go with a custom driveshaft look at dennys driveshaft. They make bullet proof driveshafts that arent that expensive.

Thanks for your posts guys. I had the car up on a lift last night and looked to see what I had. It is a steel shaft. I'll have to look into what I can afford and take into account my driving style..... I have been known to be a bit hard on the accelerator.
