The Octopus? Fuel system?

I have a 93 Suburban. I am currently experiencing problems that feel like a slipping trans. It hesitates and almost actually slows down when you step on the gas climbing hills. I actually have to drop it into second to get it up to 30 mph at times on hills. If you accelerate gradually it does okay, but I cannot get it to respond consistently when I put the hammer down. It also seems loud as if it is over revving without accelerating then it may lunge a bit as if the gas finally made it through.
Someone mentioned something about "the Octopus". This is supposed to be some fuel injection apparatus that breaks down and the whole works then needs to be replaced? Anyone know what this problem is and what the actual name of the apparatus is?

Start by having your fuel pressure tested and/or changing the fuel filter.

Thanks,
I actually did change the fuel filter the day after I posted my message. It cleared up all the problems. I have been driving a druck on propane so long now I think I forgot what a fuel filter was and how valuable they are. You were bang on though. I appreciate your response
