which set up would be better for highway driving, ( a 90 mile trip taken up to 4 times a week) a turbo or a ls/vtec? car is a 93 ls. Or i was also thinking about a b20b swap. would the b20b be better for the highway trip?

well this takes some carefull consideration.
when doing a turbo it would be best to get a boost controller. i would set the boost to about 4-8 psi for daily driving and 8-10 for the times when i feel like showing off. higher boosts will wear down the internals quick. one reason is those WRX's won't last much over 100k miles b/c the drivers are going to beat the sh*t out of them thinking they have a long lasting honda engine in them. boost is ok when it is kept down for your daily driving.

ls/vtec is about the same. but the ls/vtec must be done right with the proper tunning and wiring to it. i would get a vtec controller for this one. but as i said, a properly done ls/vtec should last too.

and a b20b. this is just the engine. no need to wory on this one. i have one in my car and no probs at all. now if you are going to turbo this or add vtec to it the same will apply for the b20 as did the b18.

all of these setup's can be considered for daily driving if they are done properly. don't just slap something together and beat the piss out of it. do them right the first time and you will be fine.

b20b... most reliable
turbo b18b (w/ boost controller)... reliable and alot of fun!

you will not be disappointed with it. i love the torque it has. i just seem to have a problem that when i take off the line i can't help but to spin all the way through first. but it is a great engine. here is a link i just posted for someone else check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33615&item=7931607101&rd=1

I wouldnt recommend LS/VTEC everyone knows they arent made for reliability due to R/S. a built motor with turbo would be longer lasting with low boost like integralover said. Damn, seriously how do you all have money for turbos smf (smf = shit man fuck. spread it around, tell ur friends. acronym started by gsr916)

itegralover, doesnt the b20b lack alot of hp though? im sure the good amount of torque makes up for sum in the lower end, but how do u like the top end? can u beat b18c's? juss wondering cuz i was thinkin bout doin a b20 also

would i need to upgrade the clutch to handle the torque?

well actually the b20b in a crv does lack the hp. that is b/c the cams and fuel map are geared differently. when i did my swap i forgot to take out the crv cams and went to have it dyno'd just to see what i was getting. at that time i could feel a difference but not what i was expecting. the dyno said that i was putting out 167hp@5800 at the crank and 137lbs/tq@ 5200. then i put the teg cams in and big difference. made up some in the top end right there. so i know i'm sitting alittle bit above that now. need to get it dyno'd again to see. the low end is perfect right now, and yea the top end is still lacking but, i'm looking to get some crower cams soon to make up for that. i have raced a gsr about a month ago and ate him off the line then, around 60 mph we stayed the same.

would i need to upgrade the clutch to handle the torque?

no need to upgrade the clutch. i installed a new clutch about 5 months before i did the swap. the stock clutches can handle this torque pretty well. once you add a turbo then i would upgrade.
