92 block 6bolt or 7bolt?

im going down to the local wrecking yard here in spokane to look at a 92 eagle talon 4g63 block and head. being its just the core, how can i tell if its a true 6 bolt?

ps. do you think $150 for a 92 4g63 block w/ crank, rods, pistions is a good deal?
i dont think i'll be getting the head, their asking $250 for it, ready to install.

I believe it goes by date it was made. Not sure of the date...maybe August? 6 bolt in the beginning of the year-7 after. At least this is what I've been told.

i dont belive anything thoses people tell me down at the salvage yard. i know if the blocks production date is before 4/4/92 its a 6 bolt, but i dont know how to tell by looking at block itself. so, i'll just check back peirodicly to see if anyone responds.

look at the crank... if it is a 6 bolt there will be 6 holes for the flywheel, or you can tell by looking at the crank sprocket, if there is a sensor that rides the plate between the balance shaft sprocket and the timing sprocket it is a 7 bolt

EDIT: btw... $250 is a good price for a complete 6 bolt shortblock :thumbsup:

the oil pan is also a different shape. the 7 bolt blocks are indented, the 6 bolt portudes a little bit. check vfaq.com under engine and it shows pictures of this.

Exactly, vfaq it. 99.9% of 92 motors are 6 bolts though. But its worth checking.
