Loud squeal when ac is turned on

I have a 96 with the i6 i just had my serp belt replaced and now when the ac is turned on the ac compressor squeals loudly... after it is reved up it will quit but comes back every now and then.. is it the compressor or something else ?

Is your tensioner puley spring loaded, or the bolt type. I replaced the same belt on my 00XJ and it took me a couple times to get the bolt type tensioner right, to were there was no sqeal. Chances are that its just the tensioner out of adjustment. Try turning it a half turn, run the A/C, do again till it goes away.

My 96 sport's AC squeled. I barrowed a buddys belt tension gage and loosened to center green. It is cured, I sprayed on some belt dressing for good measure.
