What could it be?

Yesterday on the way home from work driving in stop and go traffic all of a sudden my car was like cutting out like a surge and a couple of seconds later at a red light the car dies out on me then when the light turns green it finally starts and runs fine anyone know what this could be ? other than this the car runs just fine,but this has me worried. 3.8L cutlass ciera 1987

did the car start to cut out as you slowed down like a stick shift in too high a gear? If so, it coiuld be a sticky TCC solenoid. The TCC solenoid locks the torque converter for improved highway mileage, and will cause the car to stall as you slow down if it doesn't disengage.
