Right now...All I can afford is my 2003 Lancer ES. I love her to death, though...so I don't mind. Though I /Do/ Want a stick. I have never driven stick till about two weeks ago when I "learned." I guess I was one of those naturals, cause i was up and going in no-time! Bucked slightly shifting into first from a dead stop...but other than that i was straight. All my other shifting was real smooth. I was wondering if I would have to do a MAJOR overhaul if i wished to change my automatic to a standard...and how many bills am i looking at in price? As well...by changing it over would that change it to a five speed? (If so how much more money ... a quote ... would that be? Thanks for your help!

it'd be more money than just trading yours in for a manual. you'd need to swap trannys, modify the firewall and install te clutch pedal, get the new interior center console, new computer. and then have a guy install all that for you. i have no idea how much those types of specialists charge for labor but normal ASE mechanics charge $60-80/hour. and this isn't gonna be a quick fix.

your best bet would eithier try and pay as much as you can for a year or two then trade it in or pay it off and trade it in. but like auto said it would cost to much to switch it, unless you have friends that are really good mechanic's and you have the money

It really would not be worth switching it. You would be better off both financially and have a greater piece of mind if you just traded it in for a manual. My boyfriend is a mechanic and said he would never swap between the two because of the headache major and money.

In no way at is it worth to change for the cost of it it wiould better to just finish paying off your car or sell it thin buy a new lancer or maybe even a Evo.
