How do I remove drive shaft??????

I went four Wheeling and my drive shaft broke at the rear U joint. It is currently being held up by some pieces of wire. I need to remove it ASAP and I dont know how..... Some one please HELP!!!!!!!!!

There should be either 4 or 6 12 point bolts on the pinion shaft coming out of the rear end. it is facing towards the tranfser case. the bolts are very very tight, usually have locktiight on them from the factory. a trick people use when they do not have access to air tools is get the wrench good and centered on the bolt. then take a floor jack and jack up the end of the wrench (counterclockwise) in order to break the bolts loose. then spin the rear end or roll the truck to remove the next, and so on... if you are jacking the truck up to get underneath. use a quality jack and jack stands. these are heavy trucks. hope this helps

ps. if you have trouble with the slipyoke boot, cut one of the clamps and then replace with another after you fixed the u-joints.

Those little bolts should never be torqued that tight.

Umm....why do you need to take out the shaft, again?

I've broken that U-joint before, and I've replaced it without removing the other end of the shaft. Even on the Roadside. (Luckily, the 4x4 stands tall enough to do it without jacking.)

Just be careful not to screw-up your needle-bearings- or you'll be doing the same job again in about 5 weeks. Is this a telescoping shaft, or the single-piece? Not that it matters, I've done both in this manner.

On a Bronco they usually have a C-V joint on the rearjoint of the primary drivline instead of U-joints. I'll warn you that they are quite a bit more expensive than U-joints. They started that trend in the early eighties.

Similar issue here, except that I have an 1991 F150 and I am removing my drive shaft. The only problem I am having is that I cannot get the rear of the driveshaft separated because the two surfaces are completely rusted together. The four twelve point bolts are out and the thing wont budge even when I hit it with a hammer. any help??

Oil it and hit it again. (Use wood, or a disposable socket. I sacrificed a 17mm to do this on my BII.)

I fought with it for the better part of two days. If that makes you feel any better.

(Back OT- I misread this before. The first step to getting the shaft out is to remove the snap-rings on the U-joints (if so equipped.) I use a set of needle-nosed "Vise-Grips" because they're the best I have to do the job. Oil, hit. )
