I am currently a junior in high school. I plan on going to visiting colleges soon. I was wondering if any of you new any great automotive engineering colleges. Or colleges with great a great CAD Program because the field I plan on going into is designing cars, I have pleanty of patience. I have found school one in Las Vegas. If any one has any suggestions it would be greatly appruciated! Thanks!

I almost went to Rochester Institute of Technology, but didn't. Good thing since I am in liberal arts now. But that place seemed to be pretty good for auto engineering,w hich I was looking for.

While I figure out what forum to move this to, I will go ahead and post.
I remember you reading my article in AF's Automotive Articles on Car Design. So I can probably help you out a bit.
If you want to major in Transportational design, you will probably want to look towards more of an Art School. I am looking at Art Center College of Design (which I was supposed to meet with this Saturday), Savannah College of Art and Design (major would be in Industrial design, which Transportation Design coincides with), Detroit College of Creative Studies (Once again, Industrial Design).
ACCD, is extremely, extremely expensive. $60,000/year. Unfortunately thats the college I am mainly looking at, but do not have those sums of money. They do have a rigorous transportaion design program. I am working on getting scholarships and sponsors for attending this college.
While majoring in Transportation/Industrial Design you do have the option, and some schools require taking CAD courses. The Courses will start you out as if you dont know anything, in which you can get Advanced Placement by testing out of those classes.
Anything else?

I go to The Pennsylvania College Of Technology (Its a Penn State School), I now there is an automotive program here. but I don't know how it is. Becouse i'm in Construction management. but I know CAD program for the Construction school is very good.
THe Automotive department does have some good tie ins. Toyota and Ford hire a bunch of people from the College every year

I'm a Mechanical Engineer at Texas A&M in College Station. Damn fine school, top notch research facilities, nice area, good computer labs, and an excellent Formula SAE team. Gig'em!
Colorado State University is good too, good research, a computer lab funded by Lockheed Martin, another good SAE team...I did a year there. Nice school, a bit on the $$ side if you're out of state. But then again, what isn't?
Keep in mind, this is important, most Engineers working in the automotive field are Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineers in college. You would have a much better chance doing something like what I'm doing, a Mechanical with emphasis on the Automotive field. I'll be taking classes like internal combustion engines, design of off-highway vehicles, vehicle dynamics, you know, all the fun stuff. Test drivers and car magazine editors are usually ME's. Mechanical Engineering is probably the most versatile engineering degree out there (and it's not the hardest, so that's a plus.)

Us Aggies may not be first, but it's probably the most fun school in the top 20 :iceslolan O yeah, a lot of top car companies recruit from here. At the last career fair, I talked with reps from Ford, Honda, Toyota, and Rolls Royce. Honda is currently hiring an F1 engineer from A&M!
I'm paying my own way through college, so cost is very very important to me. CSU was costing $24,000 a year (out of state), I got through with only about $6k in loans. A&M is around $7k I got a refund of $700. Scholarships and Pell Grant rock! If cost is an issue, stay in state. If it isn't, come to Aggieland. :2cents:
