I might ask my parents to get me an exhaust for christmas, I know there are alot of great cat backs but which one would show that I possibly know what im doing for under $500? I mean, if you were behind me, which exhaust (or type of tip or something) would you want to see on my car? :sunglasse

If I was behind you, I'd want to HEAR something quiet. Nothing annoys me more than kids who romp on their cars with loud ass mufflers. but it also depends on what you're looking for performance wise. If you're going to turbo or do an all motor build up in the future, some catbacks will work a lot better than others.

A turbo in the future hopefully. Why is it better to get a cat back system rather than just a new muffler? Does the larger pipe really help my little vtech?

right now, new exhaust will barely help your vtec. but in the future, 2.5 exhaust or so will greatly help

yeah for now it won't do much, but when you go turbo you'll want like ^^^ he said for better air flow. the air that is pushed into the engine needs to be pushed out quickly too.

If you're going to turbo, wait until you do turbo the car and go with a custom exhaust from the manifold back.

why wait for the turbo? its one less part to deal with down the road. plus youll be able to fit a downpipe easier by knowing where your exhaust pipe is

Would you want to be running around town with a 3" exhaust sounding like a swarm of bees lol

haha, nope, cant say i would. but my 2.5" oval magnaflow says differently :p

2.5" pipe with oval muffler is a big difference from 3" pipe and a straight through muffler though. How is the magnaflow working out for you anyways? I'm considering getting a magnaflow with 2.25" intlet, 2.25" piping and a 22" magnaflow resonator.

mine's straight through. model #12216.
kteller 2.5" exhaust with 18" resonator. i think its great sounding. a little loud at times but the turbo should quiet it down some.

if only my civic had two more cylinders it'd be perfect sounding

I say go 2.25 from the header back now... it will not give you more power now, unless you have aftermarket headers. and if you have stalk headers it wont be to loud, but if you get hiflow headers (dcsport, bbk performance...ect...) it will be loud as shit unless you put in a hiflow cat, or a resonator. but if you are going to do a turbo soon i would wait cuz the turbo manifold is totally different than headers, and its pointless to buy headers and then just get rid of them when you go turbo. also you wont get much power out of your exhaust kitbolted onto restrictive stalk headers. my best advice would be to get a nice axle-back muffler kit with an angled kick out, then when you go turbo, finish up your exhaust up with 2.25 inch custom pipe. if you can get a shop to customize a pipe for you for a good deal, do it. the straighter the better... i went under my axle to keep it as straight as possible. you get better flow this way, but i also smack it on the street sometimes. all your choice. also the bigger the muffler (i.e. greddy evo) the deeper and more quiet. smaller skinny mufflers will be hi pitched buzzing sounding shits.

but it's all your choices and preferences
