Shift Knob

I was looking through my manual for my 01 eclipse spyder GT manual tranny last nite. It said that using the shift knob as a hand rest will mess up your tranny or something. Any one know if it matters if i do that? I have also been looking into short shifters, they are just shorter (height wise) making the shift less distance, correct?

i think all that means is that, they are afraid that the weight of your hand is constant pressure on the stick trying to push or pull it out of gear w/out the clutch in
but i dont think it will really affect anything if you arent pressing on it hard. I have a 5spd RS and it hasnt done anything and i rest my hand on it all the time.

I got an automatic, but I remember in the manual it said something about how you shouldn't rest your hand on it too b/c like I guess you can wear it out faster. I dunno.

nah they just are proly saying that so u dont void the warranty. i got a short throw in my 00 gs 4cyl and its completly fine. and as far as resting ur hand on the shifter, unless u got a fat fuckin hand that weighs 50 lbs u should be fine.

I read that our stock shift knob is counterweighted ( i took it off one day and it was really heavy too). Would it be smart to buy a lighter one or heavier one?

B&M has been a good name to trust. ive never heard a bad thing about their short shifters for the 3g, except that they dont include a shift knob anymore
