First, when was the last tune up done? What was replaced? Unfortunatly, stepping on the gas really doesn't do anything being that your wrangler has fuel injection. Once it starts, how well does it run. Will it idle on its own? Black smoke? Do you have an exhaust leak at the manifold?

Have the hood open when you shut it off, with someone to look in there and see where the smoke's coming from.

Ok I am a girl so i guess stepping on the gas does nothing?? Opps!!! silly me anyway i just bought the jeep used so it's ready for a oil change.. once it starts it runs fine...this has only happened twice in the 5 months that i owned it... the smoke is coming from under the hood... smells like something is burning??? thanks for the info...

You might have an oil leak. I was saying that if you got someone to take a look, they'd be able to see where the smoke was coming from.
I think gtmud was saying that since your Jeep is fuel injected, you don't need to push on the gas to start.
