no heat

Ok, I just flushed the heater core, well i unplugged the 2 hoses that go into the inside of the car and ran a hose through them until it was just water coming out. (i thought the heater core was clogged) I also made sure the hot/cold valve was working, and its workin fine. THen i topped off the coolant, ran the engine, took it for a drive and still no heat? Any suggestions why? The fan is just blowing cold air. I did notice that the temp gauge on the inside didnt really get past 30% (isnt it supposed to be in the middle???) Any suggestions would help out a million , thanks Jamie!

yeah, check your thermostat. sounds like it's closed. so u'r fluid never gets to the temp it's supposed to get, and that's bad. u'r engine won't get to the right temp, and u'r oil (in time) will begin to sludge and gum up. large carbon deposits in u'r combustion chambers and on your valves and pistons. I'd say check that out quick. easy way to see if it's working right; take it out, tie a string to it, boil sum water on the stove, once it's boiling, lower the thermostat down in, and see if it opens up like it's supposed to.

start a fire in your car, that will do the trick.

Ok, i just replaced the thermostat and gasket, still same problem, i have a question about the heater core. How big is it .5L? bigger? i just noticed when i flushed it out, it didnt seem to take long for it to empty, like 2 seconds topps, is that normal or do you think its clogged still somehow? The other thing is that i bought the thermostat at cdn tire and it was already opened but the last one... maybe it was broken? it looked entirelynew though.. thanks again, any help would be great!!!

i just flushed mine yesterday. it's pretty tiny, i imagine. so is the amount of fluid total in the entire system. i'll bet it's got a capacity of just one gallon. to get the heater to blow hot air, the car has to have been running for a while. usually, if you crank it and give it 5 minutes, or so, it should be warm enough to give you heat. if you're already letting it warm up, your thermostat is fine, and there are no clogs toing to or from your heater core, perhaps the water pump itself is going out... that, at least, would prevent fluid from moving to the heater core, though, the car would overheat fairly quickly from the minimal fluid circulation.
perhaps the cable going to the valve for the heater core is too loose or broken or disconnected somehow. go under the hood and manually open the valve (push the lever toward the firewall, as if the cable were pulling it) and hold it there for a moment while the heater runs in your car (after the engine has had time to warm.).
also, note the temperature of the heater hose going from the engine to the valve. if that never gets hot, then the problem isn't the core, valve, or cable.
maybe there's a little swinging door somewhere in the AC system that isn't swinging closed and is causing a constant diversion of the fan's air over the a/c and not the heater core... i'm not clear on how this sytem works specifically in the crx, but i know some cars function like this. it's worth checking out if nothing else seems to fix it.

Is there any chance the water pump is GOING? and not pumpin properly?

Cable works fine, ive tested this out.

Car doesnt have A/C.... does anyone know of any other vents? or is the new thermostat caput too? Beacause the temp gauge wont go past %30 when it should be sitting at %50... Please any help would be great! thanks jamie!

the thermostat, when new and in good condition, will be closed!!!
did u bleed the air out of your system? burp it? wut was the exact process u did when installing the thermostat?
but if u say it was open when u bought it then return it for one that works right

OK, what i meant by open is that, it was an open package...
1st, i took off the housing and pulled the old thermostat out. THen i put the new gasket on the new one, placed it in the same way the old one was in, then i placed the housing back on it, opened up the bleeder and poured more mixed antifreeze into the radiator until it streamed out of the bleeder, closed the bleeder.started the car up and still no heat.

alright well u did it all EXACTLY how it's supposed to be dun. as long as the old one was in the right way, then u have no problems there. does u'r radiator fan run ALL the time? if that's functioning correctly, then i'd say u'r heater core is bad.
i'm gonna ask u a bunch of questions just to try and pin point;
u did replace the thermostat correctly, so there shouldn't be any air pockets in the system.
u did find that the the water goes through the heater core, so it isn't clogged.
the hot/cold valve works.
air does blow out the vents.
so is your radiator fan on all the time?
does u'r radiator leak?
do u smell radiator fluid INSIDE the car?
only thing i can think of is that the heater core itself has died, unless one of those other things is the prob. if u'r not leaking and the fan isn't on whenever the car is on, then I'd say pull the heater core out and see if it's still all together.

the only thing i can add to this is that ur gauge sounds right... my car was always around 25-30%, it never got near 50% until my water pump started going out and after i replaced it, it went back to normal.

Thanks maybe ill try this, does anyone know where there is a "how to" for this job. i ve read that you have to take the whole dash off ect.. help would be greatly appriciated...
ANyone elses guage always sit at 25-35% ???? thanks again, Jamie!

Have you bleed the system? To do this warm the car up turn the heat control to hot. There is a little nipple thats a 10mm up where the top hose connects. Watch out its hot water(coolent) in there. Turn that counter clockwise to loosen allow all the air to come out. Tighten back up. Do this 3-4 times until all the air is out. Wait for car to cool check the radiator coolent level. This should fix your problem.

I had this problem a few winters ago, and it turned out to be the cable from the hot cold that leads to the valve under the hood was broken, if I manualy set it to hot i could swap it to cold in the car but not the other way around.
but you would have checked this... right ?

yeah i'm almost positive u have to pull the dash out. I torn down a wrecked crx, and pulled EVERYTHING out of it. the heater core was way up in there. i can't remember exactly if it would be possible to do w/o takin out the dash, but here's the Hayne's manual description:
1 disconnect the neg battery cable
2 drain cooling system
3 disconnect heater hoses from the heater control valve
4 remove instrument panel and center console
5 remove heater controls and disconnect the heater hoses under the dash, where they connect to the heater core housing
6 label and detach ait ducts, wiring and controls still attached to heating unit
7 unbolt the heating unit and detach it from vehicle
8 remove screws and clips and separate the two halves of the housing. take out the heater core.
from wut i remember, there was one bolt that was holding it in from inside the engine compartment, behind the engine. i hope u can do it w/o takin out the dash, cuz that's a pain.
