2001 Protege, 1.6ltr auto. Have noticed a problem with this car, when you go to take off, it will downshift, but seems to take a minute to really get going, if I back off the throttle a bit I can actually feel it responding like it should. There are no ESE light, car is stock with 40K. Replaced plugs with Bosch platnuim, realized it had NGK's, should I get rid of the Bosch. This is a new area for me . Any help would be greatly appreciated. [email protected]

Hi gtmud,
Did you ever get a reply to this? I have a 2001 Protege (1.6L) with 45k on it and the acceleration really stinks. This car has no power at all. Unfortunately, the aftermarket is not to favorable for this model. Haynes and Chiltons still don't have books out for this model. The only performance increase I could get was a K&N air filter (not much of an increase, but better than before).
