I personally tow a 24' 4,300lb. trailer. It struggles pretty bad up long climbs, butwhat do you expect from a 6-cylinder. It always makes it, I would suggest for long-term reliability not towing over 3,500 lbs. But im replacing my drivetrain when I do my stroker next year anyways. If you live in a flat area than you can get away with more. It also depends on how often you tow. good luck.

...or check the owner's manual and options. I think that you could get up to 5000 lb towing with the proper options.

The max. tow rating on the Jeep Cherokee with proper class IV or V hitch is rated at 5,000lbs. But trying to tow 5,000lbs. anywhere but flat ground is really pushinf the engine and drivetrain to it absolute max. I Have the best fluids, change them often, a couple $K in modifications to help me tow, full tow package with auxiliary transmission cooler, and a temp. sensor in the tranny and the transfer case. I am re-gearing to take some of the strain off the engine. i'm taking it down to 4.56s and using 32" tires under normal conditions to maintain fuel efficiency, and slapping some stockish size on when towing.
