EVO vs Supra!

Does anyone know, which EVO VI trim was it that raced the supra in the download section at the lancerZ site. Could the US EVO VII with increased boost(276hp) make that kind of a launch. Also from the video it sounds as if the guy kept it in one gear....until maybe towards the greater part of his lead did he switch. If the rev redline starts at 7G's and lets say he launched at 5gs (guesstimate)from the sound of him holding his rev before he launched. When exactly did he change gears from 1st to 2nd, at what rpm, cuz it looked way too long before you can hear him switch gears, I mean I know he could have easily gone past redline in first, doesn't the Evo have a rev limiter?? What do u all think?? :smoker2:

You need to watch the video because the Supra TT gets killed.

Then perhaps you'd like to explain the Video Clip then?
Last I knew, that EVO VI is an RS, and as well all know RS models are rally ready, so it doesn't surprise me the EVO ate it.

what was that guy smoking? Here's the order of fast cars - EVO - STI - RX7 - Supra , no discussion, i have driven a supra TT and an EVO VI Tommy makinen and the difference is probably like driving a vanagon vs. a type R.

Hey, I like EVO's as much as everyone here...but the Supra is in a different league. EVO=$25,000 Supra=$50,000...you get what you pay for! We are lucky that Toyota imported them in 320hp trim. Better quality, beter reliablity, stronger motor/tranny. Hell, slap on a set of 16G's at 18 psi, VPC, 3.5" exahust and a few other bits..you could be talking 500 reliable hp. Try that with an EVO. About the only thing the EVO VII has got over the Supra is weight. That can be fixed with a set of 18X9.5" fronts and 18X10.5" rears. With that rubber it will stick to the track like glue!

Lancer also has something like AWD.. or something like that, I heard its good. heh, dont wanna be a smart alec. These are my two favorites. I believe the discussion was stock for stock. the 2JZ-GTE is a fantastic mod engine due to its strength, but stock for stock, I think the Evo has the advantage, especially on the track. Dragstrip is more a close call.

Britai,
I am glad we are in agreement about the 2JZ-GTE. I respect the 4G63 as much...it just has 2 less cylinders. More compact and lighter...Mitsu transmissions suck in comparison though. AWD has its good and bad points. More weight, more drag, more maintence, less reliability, less strength, more drive train backlash, more noise. Good points about AWD...well if you live in Northern Cali and take a spin up hwy 9, In a situitation like that, on tight, twisty, bumpy, dirty back roads...it will really hook up! AWD traction out of tight corners really puts a hurtin on the RWD guys. On the other hand on the high speed sweepers many high performance AWD systems tend to understeer, for example the Turbo Porsche and the WRX STI for example. Mitsubishi seems to have really worked things out with their latest ACD and AYC control though. Is this really a drivers car though? I guess its progress...just like a 4 channel ABS can do things a driver never could. I have been fighting AWD understeer on an admitably much older but highly modified Mitsubishi platform (90 AWD TALON). Finally resorted to dropping the front bar to get the back end to come around. What people on this forum need to realize is that Mitsubshi reliability still has something to be desired. Yeah the EVO is a cool car for the money, but if your going to run it hard, get ready to spin a lot of wrenches! I cant wait to hear the whining. ' I fried my clutch in 6000 miles'...'this car is junk'...'my second gear is grinding at 15,000 and the dealer wont warntee it cause I have a K&N and a MBC'.
On a side note, I was cruising back to my house on Saturday and came across a Audi club meet about 1/4 mile from my house. About 6-8 S4's, 3 or 4 WRX's, an R33 skyline(silver) RHD of course, some M3's. Some of the S4's had some wide shoes on em! About 40 cars total.

you can hardly tell who won the race. im not doubtint that the lancer won...but really. the cars are a 1/4 mile away...the supra does apply brakes first.
but either way...the lancer would most likely take the toyota on a 1/4...it has awd. ever tried to burn it in one...you can't the tires just stick. burning your tires in a supra is easier than not.
then there is the question of the engine. you cant really tell the supra is a TT...i mean, the body style was slightly different from the 2jzge, but you can change that with like $500. unless the webmaster is the most honest person in the world, as is the one who took the footage, then that could be a single turbo, twin turbo, or non turbo supra racing.
im not putting down the evo...i would rather drive it than the supra.
but i guess its just that i have seen/driven a supra. and i didnt even know you could get an evo in the US. but i guess if you were going to race $4$ the lancer could waste it.
then again..$4$ a pinto could take a supra too...
but all im trying to say is that the supra could have possibly been a 6cyl inline, non-turbo 7MGE 190hp crappy supra that doesnt do anything but look nice. i mean...i have beaten a supra. 7MGTE 245hp. and it wasnt hard.

If we are all talking about the same video, it looks to me the the Supra starts reeling in the EVO really fast towards the end. Also, Dont base all of your performance asumptions on one video, there are too many variables at work.

As you all have probably read, the EVO is one of the fastest A 2 B car. Also known to be a giant slayer.:xelicon: Cost has got nothing to do with what class we are racing. It is all about the performance of the car when put to the test. In that case the EVO has shined like a bright star compared to most. As far as the Supra hitting the breaks first.....the guy just quit...even before he reached the end of the strip...why bother when your so badly beat...:stormzap:
