I'm just curious... is anyone else scared to death of how the current crop of 16-20 year old people are going to contribute to our future?

I was sitting at a local grub-slinging establishment tonight, and started listening to the conversations that were going on around me.

Everything from, "like, so I got my, like, paycheck today, and like, the fuckers, like cheated me 2 hours... I think"... to, "I oughtta move to Florida, ya know what I'm saying, because fuck Ohio, ya know what I'm saying, Ohio blows, ya know what I'm saying, shit. Man, ya know what I'm saying, fucking Ohio. My baby's daddy is down there, ya know what I'm saying?"

What in the Hell happened to schools over the past x amount of years? Do you suppose that every generation thinks that their predecessors are retards? Or, is this current group of barely-passed-the-proficiency-tests scholars actually this freaking ignorant?

I'm 15, do I count too, and besides, at my school, it's mostly the white kids that talk like that.

i'm sorry but that's a very prejudiced generalized statement to say that every 16-20 year old is like that and will have the same effect on society.

i am 19 years old and do not in any way talk like that.

those are the people that the normal ones won't let have an effect in the future. they're probably not too smart if they're still talking like that, and the smart people generally take care of them

i dont talk like that but i still talk with alotta slang cause i'm an immigrant an i started learning english around other immigrants who were learning english. So we jus talk how we hear it, how other people talk.

i hear you. especialy when these younger teenagers are walking around the mall dressed up likle little sluts. what are their parents thinking. girls didnt drees like that when iwas younger, and we didnt talk like that either. it irks me to no extent, but i try to not let it show. they will grow up soon enough, and have to exist in the real world. the ones who do will get over it, and the ones that dont will bag my groceries.

Yeah. But will most of them get over it or not. If most of them don't get over it, this will create a big problem for society. There just aren't enough of those kinds of jobs for them. Plus the illegal immigrants take up some of those also.

im 18 and i am as far away as could be from people like that and talk like that, i honestly dont do drugs, maybe drink every now and than but thats it and you know what i get for it...everything, outta all the people i know that act like assholes and talk stupidly and shit im the most creative. Lets say i create something like a Stereo setup for my car all nice and stuff, and my friends will be all like "blah like how did you make that shit yoooooo, teach me maaaannnn" and i'll tell them no, just because im not going to waste my time teching someone something there not gonna remeber how to do after the next time they get wasted or high, forget it.

and what ticks me off more than that is these people coming into america demanding stuff like they want holidays and they want road signs in 3 languages, fuck that come here learn english, congrats to those people that take action and do but fuck the ones that just sit there and complain about everything. I learned early in life that complaing does nothing, get out there and take some action!!!!

You cant just judge someone on how they speak. When im with my friends we talk slang and what not but i still consider myself very intelligent. I have alot to contribute to the future.

You're right, and it's probably because I've been in the military 4 years and hearing teeny boppers talk like that just kills me. Like said above though, they're the people that will probably be swept under America's rug later in life, so it's not that scary.

good to see your looking out for everyones future, an tackling the real issues, those issues that are hard out that need to be tackled head on. We cant let these kids speak unless it doesnt fit with how we like it to be!

I've experienced the same sort of feeling that Ricohet has, but have come to the same conclusion that Taranaki pointed out. I'm just getting older. I think it all changed when I realized that for the most part, my parents weren't full of shit..... Note to the younger folks out there. They really aren't stupid, and you only got away with it because they let you. They pulled the same stunts when they were 15. Cheers...
