new to this forum. i have a 91 crx hf 1.5.
what is the difference in the hf,dx,si ??
is mine a dog ?
it is my dailey driver. i love it, 35 mpg.
from what i im reading, there is not much i can do to improve performance. as one guy said - hf & performance do not go togather.
thanks.

It's an economy car. It has the least features and slowest motor out of any in that generation, but also the lightest. Motor swapping is the only option to get performance out of it. Even if you go for a higher end d-series.

only 35 mpg? my 89 dx gets 35 easily, and it's got just over 230k miles on it... i thought the hf was supposed to have milage up in the 50's.
taking this assumption into account, you could do a few things to at least get the engine performing like it used to. it's apparantly drinking the gas when it's supposed to be just sipping.

it does have the HF on the back. about 1 year, i had it tuned to pass emmissions testing. prior to that it was getting about 40mpg. can anyone tell me what they did to get it to pass emmissions, that also droped the mpg? can i get the mpg back ?
thanks.
thanks.

New sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, dizzy cap, rotor and 02 sensor (cheap one from autoparts store), then reset ecu... pull red 10a "hazard" fuse from under-hood-fusebox for 10 sec., replace, idle for 5 min. (don't touch gas or anything), shut off, restart and drive away happy... oh and a new fuel filter might help too...

What exactly does this do?
I have an '89 HF that's getting 36-38mpg around town. The car has 165k on it, everything's bone stock including the wheels & tires. It runs strong (for that motor) & doesn't smoke or anything. Though it is about 20k since the last tuneup.... I'll do the tuneup & fuel filter. I feel like it ought to be getting 45 at least.
Thanks,
EC

Why does everyone keep saying pull the red hazard fuse? It doesnt have anything to do with the ecu, If you dont believe me pull it out and start up your car. It is the fuse to your hazard lights. You have to pull the battery cable or the main fuse for it to reset the ecu.
The ecu cycles, so after a few days or normal the ecu has sysematiclly reset itself in most cases.

Are you saying it recycles anyway, whether you pull the battery cable or not?

i heard that the "ecu" fuse was a ignition one and the "hazard" fuse was for the permanant ECU settings if you get what i mean, i have heard this a lot

Then why does the Helm's manual say "remove HAZARD fuse in the under-hood fuse box for 10 seconds to reset ECU" here (http://www.binghamtonlife.com/manual/2gsm/images/91-11-91.jpg) (example from idle adjusting page)?

I dont know, must be a bad translation or something, that fuse does not controle the ecu.

I think it has to do with air/fuel mix. I'm pretty sure 91civicDXdude can explain it. I was skeptical myself but why would the fuse for just the hazard lights be in the under-hood fuse box?

the fuse for the taillights and brake lights are under the hood also. Maby I'm wrong, but I'm 100% possative that on my 88 dx hatch that it has absolutly nothing to do with the ecu. Maby its been rewired or something, but I know that mine has nothing to do with it.

It's probably just an mpfi 90-91 thing. There are so many differences between 88-89 and 90-91 and civic hatches and the crx. For example, the timing jumper is located in different spots.
