2001 ZX2 A/C compressor problem

I have a 2001 ZX2 and the A/C quit blowing cold. I am not getting any power to the compressor, and both pressure switches have checked out OK.

Are there any relays in this line?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

yes there is a Wide Open Throttle relay in the junction block..if the relay has white lettering its probly junk...theres a problem with all relays with the white letters

There is an A/C compressor delay relay that may be out. I have a 99 ZX2 and it had the same problem. I can send you the wiring diagram to show you the A/C path is you like.

i was wondering if one of you still had that print. my compressor has no power to it. but by-passed it works. i would be very happy if you will send a copy ot me.

There is a relay in the CCRM (constant control relay module). It is below the air filter housing just in front of the right strut tower. It controls the power to the clutch on the A/C. The CCRM also contains 4 other relays in the same unit.
The soldering on the relay has been known to crack. You can take it off and solder it again to save mucho dinero on a new relay. It's several hundred dollars. Ouch! If you're looking for it, it is a 5X5 inch box with 20 or so wires going into it. If you research CCRM Air Conditioning Ford Escort, on the forum, you will find more material than you care to read.

still trying to find pic on how to possibly re-solder the crack. i know this problem is old to others, but very new to me. i thank you for all the help you can give.

The only photo-guide that I'm aware of for repairing the CCRM is located here (http://www.feoa.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=40417&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0). Be aware though that mis-diagnosis can happen on these CCRMs - expensive replacements are fitted only to find that the problem remains. It's easy to test them first though if you have access to a multimeter or 12V test lamp, by checking the voltages on pins 21, 22 and 23.

There are two different types of CCRM:

In one type, pin 22 will normally sit at 0V, and then when the A/C is switched on, the voltage will rise to 12V, at which time 12V will also appear on pin 23, and the A/C clutch should engage.

In the other type, pin 22 will normally sit at 12V, and then when the A/C is switched on, the voltage will fall to 0V, at which time 12V will appear on pin 23, and the A/C clutch should engage.

Regardless of which type you have, you're looking to see if the voltage at pin 22 changes when the A/C is switched on - if it does change but 12V does not appear on pin 23 then check for 12V on pin 21 - if you have 12V on pin 21 but not on pin 23, then the CCRM is faulty and should be repaired or replaced.

On the other hand, if the voltage at pin 22 changes when the A/C is switched on and 12V does indeed appear on pin 23, then that indicates that the CCRM is working fine, so your problem lies elsewhere - probably in the wiring to the A/C compressor clutch coil, or its ground connection.

If you have a meter or test lamp then that will only take a few minutes. If you don't have a meter then you might want to just open the CCRM and check the soldered connections on the WAC relay.
