Rough Roll within the first ten feet

Good afternoon, Citizens.

I've noticed lately that when I'm first starting up the car and rolling out of my parking space, for just a brief moment, it feels like there's a rough roll. I can sort of hear a grind, almost as if my brakes were scraping, but it goes away almost immediately. It comes back every time I'm parked for a while.

Could this be a wheel bearing? I had my trac OFF light come on a couple weeks back after a decent length drive, but it went off while the car was parked, and never came back.

Have you checked your brake pads? May be a sticking caliper. If this is the case, you should be able to tell because one set of pads should be more worn than the others.

I wouldn't totally rule out wheel bearing either though.

Is that what it could be cuz mine does the same thing. Seems to "vibrate" at like 4mph then stops.
VERY annoying.

if you can see through your rims, pull the car forward a few inches and look at the rotor. Can you see the outline of the pad? If so, then you have contaminated pads that need to be changed, regardless of wear. IF not, I'd suspect the hub bearing is starting to go.

It's always after sitting and I back out. I back up, put it in gear and for like 5-10 ft it grinds a little.

Has anyone figured out what it was yet?

Fixing a sticking caliper is cheaper then replacing the wheel bearing :).

maybe the rotors are rusting a little from sitting. i have a 97 and it does the same thing.

I believe waht you maybe hearing is when you first start your car and get rolling the ABS system does a quick self diag test. You maybe hearing the ABS pump/motor cycling on. Should only last about 2-3 seconds, if even that long at all.

Just talked to my buddy who's studying to be a mechanic.

He says that it could be the car testing the ABS when it starts rolling forward. He says GM cars do it all the itme, just not in reverse.

He's gonna look at it though and I will report back.
