battery reset time?

ok i just got a die hard battery for my car and put it in perfect. i know it resets itself and was wondering how long it takes for the battery to reset?

What? Batterys dont reset, are you asking about something in the car reseting?

yes man when i put in my stereo system the car would die quite frequently till i drove it for a while.

Might have been that you just didn't tighten the terminals tight enough, or that you had a short somewhere...because batteries don't require any reset time...you drop them in and go.

well what the heck is the deal cause when my friend installed my system and put that gold thing on the battery it died alot till it reset.

also the same thing happened when i got the control module chip with btw sucks ass.

Don't know what gold thing your talking about, but I gaurentee batteries don't need any reset time, my vr4 is on its 3rd or 4th battery, I've jumped it dozens of times, and there is no such thing as a reset time...only thing I can think of, is that you are confusing it with disconnecting the battery in order to reset the ECU...

Sounds like you're doing things that you don't know about and therefore shouldn't be doing because I don't know about anyone else but you're not making much sense to me. What do you mean the car would die until you drove it for a while?? if it dies doesnt that mean it turns off, therefore you can't be driving it for a while? And what is it that you're saying is reseting? Just trying to understand what your problem is so maybe I can help.

ah there we go ok we are getting somewhere. ok thats it then ecu is resetting. the time on my system was set back. ok so how long does it take for that to reset? sorry i am mehanically illiterate.

just to clear up all this confusion, when you disconnect the batter for a time, 2 things reset. if disconnected for more than 30 seconds (i think), then your stock radio/tape deck's security/anti-theft mode will kick in. In order to get your radio/tape deck to turn back on (only for the stock radio/tape deck), you will have to enter the security code for the radio/tape deck. After you do this, you will find that all of your radio presets have been reset to the default settings, and you'll have to go back and preset all your favorite stations again.

Secondly, if the battery is disconnected for about 10 minutes (i think) then when you reconnect the battery, the ECU will have to "re-learn" itself. Sounds stupid i know, but its true. So when the ECU is "re-learning" itself, the engine will rev up and down, and possibly die. Here you need to drive the car around for a while (probably 10/15 minutes is fine) in order for the ECU to reset its original settings.

Another possibility, if your car's engine is reving up and down and maybe dieing, is that you forgot to plug the MAF plug back into the MAS module just after the intake. I've had this happen several times when i get my car back from the shop...and i hate it b/c its jsut a stupid careless error on their part...which is why i no longer will trust anyone else to work on my car. If you want something done right, sometimes you gotta just do it yourself.

your awesome man thats exactly what is going on with my car. so i drove it around for like 15 min or so in my neighborhood. it hasnt been acting up today but sometimes it goes back to the way it was before. i hope it changes soon.

i think i know what you are going on about.

you mean there is a reset time on the ecu for our cars. after 10 minutes, the ecu goes back to stock settings i.e a default setting. if you change the air filter, take the cat out, put modified front pipe or exhaust system on, this alters the air/fuel mixture settings and the ecu recognises this and alters accordingly. when i did mine it ran like s**t for 10 minutes and cleared itself shortly afterwards.

just leave it ticking over and rev it up to around 2000 revs occasionally and it will eventually sort itself out. you should not drive it until this is adjusted as you are getting the wrong mix at present and this can be dangerous.

dangerous? how so? I know it degrades performance, and possibly makes more emissions, but I've never heard of it being dangerous. Just wonderin.

Well if you run too lean (especially with boost from turbos) while the ECU is relearning, you'd get knock and could destroy some pistons...
