UGH when do the problems end... ?

ok so heres the deal .. 96JGC 6cyl @ 124k

When do starters go ? and is there any way of telling ?

I was away on VACA over the weekend and was out all day yesterday in the truck..as the day progressed when i went to start the truck it seemd to need to "pull some extra juice" to turn over...

I woke up this morning went to the gym no problem getting there ..went to leave...and the truck would not start...not even with a jump.. i had lights ... but no crank nothing, would turn the key and nothing...

just want to verify that this would be the starter...

thanks
Dave

well I think it maybe a possible Nuetral Safety Switch bad or Ignition Switch is bad.

try placing the tranny in Nuetral and try to start the jeep.

When it happens take try knocking the starter while an assistant trys to turn the key. This happened to me, took the starter to a starter/alternator guy. He replaced the brushes, work good since , that was 2 yrs ago.

I had the same problem. It came on rather quickly though. First it starts out as an occasional problem that is usually remedied with a jump. Then it just flat out won't start. The problem is clearly the the starter, but the precise issue is a mystery to me. i know motors can have one bad winding and if it stops on that on winding then it will not have the ability to close the circuit and get it to turn. For most of us time is more important and we don't have enough of it to sit around and tinker with the complexities of a starter. I just replaced it. It has been working just fine for a few months now. I realized the problem after the second time I had to locate the wife and then jump it, only becuase I had so many emergency calls from one of her friends who had a 4 speed Nissan that would arbitrarily not start as well and all I did was push start it and she was on her way. She too ended up replacing her starter and it has been almost a year since then. I paid $100 or so and spent maybe a half hour underneath. Mostly wiping mud dropping out of my eyes (did a little off roading).
