INTERIOR (cheap)

k.... i just bought a 91 acura integra... the guy did the interior with that paint stuff... all of it is chipping off and it looks like shit...

i need to know how to remove it.. the paint

and what are the best steps to get the best results from self painting ur interior.

do i need to sand? prep? someone help me out.. thx

you don't need to sand. But you need to primer, then maybe 1 or 2 coats of paint, then a clear coat would look nice. I suggest you just try to paint on top of what he already has.

do what buh buh wrote and make sure the primer is for the right application. But, i would reccommend that you not paint over the existing paint. If you want to do a good quality job and save yourself sometime l8ter on, remove it all and start from scratch. If you dont start from scratch the original paint will come to the surface of your new paint crack it and create uneven surfaces, which i assume you dont want.

if its chipping, sand it all down and restart!

Ok, First off you want to remove all the old paint.. If you paint over that it will continue to chip. Chiping is caused by lack of bond between the surface and the paint... I do custom interior for a living so here are the right tips..
remove all the old paint..sand all the surfaces that need to be painted... If you want to make your interior show quality then you need to resin all panels. resin is a fiberglass layer that is hard and sands really smooth... then get a actual paint gun... use automotive paint... and get the automotive clear.. go with 3 layers of base and about 5 layers of clear..

Quick question...I'm doing this (well I'm doing a complete glass interior but anyways) if you put resin over it what is the purpose of sanding it?? I doubt the resin will flake off lol. Not being an ass just trying to learn so that whenever I do this I'll know

ok glassing it was the second option... there were two ways to do it that i posted it was sand it and if you want show quality you CAN glass it then i continued with how to paint it.. i just left out some words there to define what way i was talking about.. Sorry about that.. but its still a good idea to sand first.. the only reason you would glass it to make the surface hard, meaning it was vinyl.. and some vinyl protectors like to soke in a bit to the vinyl.. glass still has to have a solid surface to stick to. some cleaners and shit wont take that out so you have to sand off some layers to get a good glass bond.. another way , the way mine is done is epoxy.. epoxy is extremly hard to do but its alot lighter than glass.. i do not recomend doing it unless your town has a company that can dip it..that way you get a real fine layer of it on there....
