Spark Plugs

I just got a used 2001 Aurora with 3.5 engine and was going to pull plugs to check them out and couldn't find them with all the plastic covering the engine. What do I have to take off to remove them? I also would like to know what wrench is needed to remove the Oil Filter? Thank you.
