Ok, for those that don't know i have an 85 1.5 Carbed CRX, basically it's been running sluggish lately, but i experimented a little. I basically ran an open element air-cleaner(Ghetto-Style) just simply took the top off lol! But it started to run better when i took it off & the temp stayed cooler than usual. What gives? Is there a better open element i could actually buy for this CRX? Open to all opinions. Thanks in advance,

When I got my SiR, the element was a piece of chickenwire :bloated:
I bought a standard Honda filter which was ok, but swapped to a Jamex reusable filter. Put them both on a flow bench at finer filter (aussie filter company) and the Jamex flowed 7% better than the stock filter (both using the stock cold air box). A finer filter version flowed 6% better than stock, but was custom made. Interestingly, I tried a pod that had been built for a VTiR (EK B16A hatch over here) and lost power over the standard box (heat under the bonnet was the reason).
Get a K&N reusable or any other good brand reusable is my thought :)

You could take off the air cleaner and cut off all the metal outside of the rubber seals. Do this to both halves. Then get a K&N filter. Or adapt the cover from '88-'91 Civic/CRX thottle body injection, and make a cold air intake with a universal K&N.
