Hi All,
From what I have read this may not be the best purchase.
Here is the Car I'm looking at.
1996 A4 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=172350737&dealer_id=1390281&car_year=1996&make=AUDI&distance=any&max_price=8000&model=A4&advcd_on=n&end_year=1996&min_price=&first_record=26&address=53222&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1996&=&color=&cardist=5)
They are fixing an 02 sensor and the control arm or arms? I don't know how many are bad.
Should I run from this? Otherwise it drives great.
Thanks,
JZ

yeah bad deal...well at least i think so...regardless of them fixing all that stuff that is really cheap for how many miles it has...id steer clear...ive got a 96 with 72500 miles and i know its worth 10 grand...maybe 9...mine is quartto so it adds a bit...but it seems to me like theyre pricing it low to get rid of it...thats just what i think...you should look up the car on carfax

def. not the greatest deal out there.
..and if you think you're 96 is worth 9-10k...you're out of your mind..my 99.5 is barely worth that.

well i dont know anything about yours but according to both kelley blue book and edmunds a 96 quattro with 72500 miles could easily be sold privately for 8500 to 9000...and bought from a dealer for 11500 according to kbb or 10500 according to edmunds...i dont want to sound too defensive but i recently bought it so i knew these things and i didnt think i got a raw deal...i think the car JZach got is pretty low espeically with less than 90000 miles...there must be something up with the car that the dealer isnt telling you...also i just looked it up and i noticed that at least for a 99 there is a difference of about $2000 to $3000 between the 1.8T and the 2.8...the 1.8T being cheaper

blue book is great.. but the real world is something entirely different... more power to ya if you can get it..and I wish I could b/c I'd sell my car ;) .. but the prices on b5 a4's have dropped drastically in the last year...

Price seems alittle low for the milage. Buying a 2.8 and not the 1.8T means that you wont have to worry about problems with a turbo, but then again any used car is going to eventually have its problems.

Ok so I broke down and bought it.
Talked them down to 6500. I also got the extended warranty.
Coming out of a 91 Integra, I can tell you the A4 is way more fun to drive.
They put new pads and rotors on the front and all 4 upper contorl arms are new.
Does any one know if the mirror glass only can be replaced.
The lower edge is discolored.

congrats...the warranty definitley makes it more worthwhile...
the mirror glass can be replaced..I have the same problem..usually stems from the heated mirrors...which I'm not sure you have... but I do know that the older heated mirrors were constantly on...which caused them to deteriorate more quickly..
cant think right now where to order the glass from...but let me think a bit.. I know ecstuning only seems to have the euro blind spot mirrors... which are defintiley cool if you want to upgrade..
