1990 cavalier

ok guys, I've been doing some research on my old cavalier with a 2.2 I've recently come to find out the compression ratio is 8.9:1 stock. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could bolt on a head from a smaller engine (I think you could get 2.0 or 1.8 in 1990) to raise the compression a little bit ... if I can, how much could/would that help ? Thanks.

I've been itching for a reason to take the head off and have it examined. The guy who had it before me heated it up real good and warped the head a little. The electric fan went out on it this summer and it overheated once. Its not runny poorly but I'd like to make sure the head didn't warp again. Anyway, could you give me information on where to look to find out what other head would fit on my block ? Thanks in advance.

If it is running smoothly then the head is not warped. A warped will not hold compression, that is why this is bad condition. If you want to raise the compression then send out the head and have it milled. But the computer will also need to be changed. It controls the ignition timing and it is set for stock compression. Higher compression will only cause a knock. Good Luck.
