Hi,
I live in california and I just got my smog check at a test only center and it bearly passed, but I'm scared for the next one. Please look at the numbers and tell me what could cause the high HC and NO. Thanks...
1993 Honda Civic DX Sedan 1.5L 5-Speed non-AC
CO% O2% HC CO NO
MAX AVG MEAS MAX AVG MEAS MAX AVG MEAS
15 MPH 15.5 0.1 97 21 85 .59 .06 .14 731 150 717
25 MPH 15.1 0.1 62 13 62 .59 .05 .10 798 136 775
1653 RPM @ 15 MPH
2620 RPM @ 25 MPH
The car has 210515 Miles on it. Just replaced air filter, gas cap, oil & filter, spark plugs, radiator.
I did notice a little leak of oil on the ground.
I do need to replace a cv boot, spark plug wires, fuel filter, tires, timing belt & other belts...
Any help is appreciated...thanks...

Not hard.. but if it's messed up it runs about $70+
I think this might be it
I had to do a test only about a week ago.
I cahnged the Water pump(it was leaking)
the thermostat
Fixed the timing
and at the end we changed the 02 sensor,
the car passed with flying colors,
My NO was super high before i cahnged the sensor...
so that might be the reasonable thing to do...
if you want a deeper and more technical explanation talk to GSCivic7 , he can help you out beta' than i can.
The 02 sensor is located right behind the radiator, almost under your engine code.
Mine is a Civic DX Coupe but it's auto

High HC is due the cause of the vehicle misfiring, high nox is caused by the vehicle's cylinders arunning hotter than normal.. possible you may have the beginning of a lean misfire...
