Timing messed up... ?

Me and my friend recently changed the cam belt for my 420a motor with 110k miles on it. After we finished, and start the car up.... it started up really rough... idle is rough as well... CEL goes on... at that time I was too lazy to take everything apart again and fix it... so I've been driving the car like that for 3 weeks now. At one point on the road coming to a stop motor shut off by it self... luckily it was able to start up again... my question and guess is... is it my timing that's messed up? How bad is it for the car if I keep driving it like this? If the timing is off... how could the car start up in the first place?

Also another question... the radio in the car stopped working... now shows 'code'... I'm guessing it has to do with the CEL. How do I fix this so I can listen to music again? Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.

Teh radio lost power, and you need to enter the code that unlocks it. Each DSM that came with this stereo setup had a card with the number, check your glove box. If you cant find it you need to get with mitsubishi with your VIN number and they can give you the code. Some are more strict that other and may need to see the registration or the radios serial number, etc. Which is a good thing, keeps poeple from stealing and using our stock head units.

The problem with your motor could be valve timing off a little bit, but not enough to do major damamge. If you havent smashed valves into pistons yet, then it should be an easy fix. Just redo the belt job, correctly this time ;) I believe the NTs do give you a CEL when the timing belt is off.

I see.... so I have to actually go to a dealership and give them my vin number? Is there a easier way because that'll probably cost me $. Like getting it on the web or something?

I just called a few dealers they all say they have pay a fee for the code?! So screw that... how do I take the radio out and check my self? well... basically how do I take the radio out without destroying the thing.

I know my dealer does it for free, cause I've had to call them a few times when I forgot it. I wouldn't mind calling them up for you, all they need is the serial number (on the front of the head unit). :)

I've said it before, I've said it a thousand times. They should NOT be giving out the code with just the serial number. What the fuck good does that do us? I can go steal a radio and just call in the number stamped on it and be good to go. What a bunch of fuck sticks. Ignorance like this pisses me off. They should be asking for the VIN number. I give up.

Damn kev! Calm down. Its not something that we can fix. I tested out how many dealers would give me the code and it was like 1 out of 4. It was pretty pathetic. the other ones asked me for my vin number. so i guess its not too bad.

Ok.. I live in NY and I called at least 6 dealers they all tell me they charge 85 dollars for the code... lmao. Saying how I need to bring the vehicle and stuff.. in the mean while I've already go the serial# on the radio.

Vin# 4A3AK34Y8XE081663
Radio Serial # 97C502221

If anyone can make a call for me I'd appreciate it.
