Catalic converter

Are all cars required to have catalic converts, I have a 1972 ss and It has Antique plates on it, I want it to pass inspection so I can drive it and be legal without it being a special function. I live in Texas

Hmm, well I have a 68 Nova and Im running Straight Pipes with Dual Flowmasters. I dont have to get it inspected. You shouldnt have to either. I live in California too, where smog inspections are 1974 and up. So I got lucky.
