Air Silencer

I read on here that somebpdy said you can force the air silencer out w/o removing the splash guard. I tried that... I cant figure out any way how. Is it true?

nevermind I just took off the splash guard instead of waiting... I dont think its possible to force it out. The air silencer is only that stupid black L shaped pvc tube right?

I got mine out without having to take off the splash sheild. It realy doesn't make much of a difference anyway. (I just like the sound it makes!)

It can make a big difference if you open up the rest of the intake...

oh yeah, that wasnt the only thing I meant to say lol... i fooled around with it for a while and eventually decided that I could have already taken off the splash guard by then, so yeah.. and about performance... if I gun it at 35 mph I notice a little bit of a difference, on the highway I couldnt really tell, and about the sound.. I only could hear the dif. when i was sitting n my driveway revving it so I could hear it... not when im driving. Oh well, Im glad I did it, the air silencer is stupid anyways. oh yeah lol, I also cleaned out my filter which had dead bugs, leaves twigs and rocks in it, that may have helped as well.

By opening up the rest of your intake he means basically getting a better air intake and so on and so forth.

I saw these generic cone filters at autozone, and the intake couplers and adapters, and I could get it all for like 30 bucks... would that be a good idea? Is there more involved than just taking my airbox out and clamping on a cone filter?

I would use a heat sheild or something similar. I;m in the process of making my hood functional for cold air.

you mean like making a plexiglass box around the cone so im not sucking in hot air? Ive seen pics of people doing it on TCCOA but I dont really know the science behind it, so I might just end up putting a cone on and then building a restrictive air box around it, and then looking stupid. what would happen if I just put the cone on and didnt use a heat sheild? It would still be better than the stock air box right?

I'm putting my air silencer back on my car because I'm getting tired of replacing my air filter every month. I did modify my silencer a bit, tho. I cut it in half and pulled out the sleeve from the inside. Then I put silicone all around the inside to streamline the crazy edges so the air travels up into the filter much easier. We'll see how it works. I basicall did all of this so that the intake won't be as restricted as it was, while still keeping some kind of barrier between my filter and the bare asphalt - the rainy season is approaching, and I know that if that filter gets soaked I'll be in for some serious problems.

I didnt think that would be a problem, but since you say it is, I will probably do the same thing.

The air silencer is a piece. I just truned it towards the opening to try to get a ram air sort of effect. Then i ended up modifying my intake heavily. Rick i would suggest the Civic cold air intake tube from Autozone. It will fit where the "violin case" is right now. It takes some time and effort but if you see how restrictive that stupid case is, it's all worth it. My car ROARS above 3000, it slams me back into the seat. I also have a cone filter on it. If you ask me getting a exhaust is another must performance upgrade. It is also extremely restrictive. I have a flowmaster delta flow system, and i noticed a pretty good pwer increase. And it's not that loud. Which i am kinda upset about. But if you want to keep it pretty low key, that's probably the way to go. It sounds comprable to a stock Mustang GT. and it doesn't have ridiculous pipes or anything, very low key.

thats probably what I will do with it once I pay off my credit card bills. Im too in debt to do that any time soon. If im lucky I can do that in a year or so (about the exhaust). I probably will go get me a cone filter some time this month and the adapter. Im sure I'll feel a difference... actually wait.. no I think I'll take that 30 bucks and save it towards replacing my O2 sensor... damn, I hate being broke.

yeah it sucks. I am very broke. And a lot of things will have to wait until i get some more money this summer.

I have a friend with a 94 4.6... He just recently put a mustang TB on it... Thing looks sweet... Instead of just the little rectangular piece, it has a whole plastic cover that basically covers the entire intake manifold.. It's very clean. He also has the cobra heads and was going to be getting cobra headers, but might be moving to live with his dad and get a brand new GT.. Sucks.
