I know that this is a total newb qustion. But, Im looking for a full exhoust for my stang.
So how do you do that? It would be nice if a company made a kit. But I can't find any. All I can dig up is cat backs, and then headers. But I don't want to connect it to stock cats? Any advice? How do most of you guys do it?

well they all just bolt up. You should be able to find mid pipes everywhere (x or h) which are what your cats are attached to. what yr is ur stang and what model v6 gt or corba?

I acutaly havn't bought it yet. Im looking at 99' and 98' seems to be a lot cheaper than 00', maybe its the older styling.
Im definitly going GT. So I need to buy a "mid pipe" i havnt't seen any for sale but I have heard of them. where could I pick up say, an X pipe?
And so then i would get some headers, a catted exhoust, and then an appropriet mid pipe?

96 though 98 is a different body style then the 99 though 04. also on the 96 though 98 have different heads and intake manfords, then the 99 which have pi heads better heads. but dont worry you can buy a set of pi heads and intake and put them on a 96 though 98 and have the same horsepower.
Also you would get some headers(conect to ur engine) then a midpipe(x or h)(with catalyic convs or not)(this conents to the headers)then a cat back exhaust which is you mufflers and tailpipes(this connects to the midpipe.
the X pipe provideds more hp not much but sounds raspy and has a less deep sound to it
the h pips has less horsepower gain then a x but is lower and deeper then a x. use the website i gave u to compare what u like better.

Alright, so its worth it to get a 99 then? Cause it will probably cost more to buy those parts and install them then just buying the newer car in the first place.
I think that I understand the exhaust now. So with the mid pipe. How do you size it? Or are the pipes undersized so it just overlappes the diffrence. Or do you hack saw it?
Either way it sounds doable.
One more question. I know on some stangs you have to lift the engine to get one of the headers out. So right their I would probably have an exaust shop do it. But are there any kits that don't require welding? But I hate it when the pipes shake around so probably not.

they all bolt together. the headers bolt on to the engine. u can get headers to go in with out removing them long tube headers are really head though well headers period are a pain in the ass.

Yea dur.... :icon16:
Ok let me get smart agian.... Ghost I disagree.... I would worry about 96-98/99-04 PI difference that is $1200 swap and that is if you do the work yaself. It's just like old if you want a stick car(instead of auto) or V8(instead of V-6/I-4) you should just sell yours and buy one cause it's cheaper in the long run deal.

i agree too with what you said but i mean if hes gonna mod then he will pry change the heads regaurdless right. so i mean yeah buying a 99 up would pry be better. Yeah he could always have the heads ported and polished and they would be pretty damn good heads. or he could buy paritiot heads ported and polished for 1600. also a 96 stang is a few thousand cheaper the a 99 so if u used the difference of the cars he could buy the paritiot heads and have them on for what 2 gs?

Well he was talking more 98 vs 99 just cause the exhuast stuff was cheaper. The price difference between a 96 vs a 99 the swap can probably be covered but not labor also. It doesn't sound like he is ready to do a PI heads swap does it?

well I was just rtying to access maximum horsepower. If I did get say a 96' and planned to upgrade the heads anyways then it would be a bargain. But personally the 00 look better and then 02 look the best; Im still shopping,
Im really looking at basic part swaps, and then maybe more advanced stuff later. To start with im really looking at full ehaust, ecu chip, and fener well intake.
In the future I would like to do light cam upgrade and a head upgrade, but who really knows?
