alright, i have been modifying my car, slowly but surley, and Im hoping im ready for the turbo, I have put the apexi N1 exhaust on my 92 stock 240, with original motor still in it. Next I just got myself tanabe lowering springs(1.5 front, 1.2 rear), kyb non adjustable gas struts throughout, and tein tie rod ends(cause i needed new ones, might as well be top of the line). So now Im hoping im ready for a turbo, Im getting a hookup with a professional in custom performance parts, since there is no good turbo kit out for my year of car. now my question to whomever is, are there any other things that i should do to get it more ready and cause less problems in the long run if any were to arise at this point in the game. Also, after I were to put a turbo on, which is going to be a T4, plus the whole kit, what engine mods should be done, to make it more reliable for everyday uses, and more safer.
thanks alot

It depends on how much power you want to make. A good cone filter doesn't hurt. I'm using a K&N filtercharger. Do a compression test. If you want the engine to last forever, you should switch out the pistons. Most people who aren't going to run more than 12psi usually don't as long as the compression is good. Good luck.

This also depends on the power you'll be putting down, but a new clutch might help.

i don't know how well your ka is running but before i do any major work (turbo), i'm going to rebuild my engine, and replace lots of parts.. pistons for one, which are quite pricey but they're going to dictate how long you want to have your car pretty much.. if you lower your compression, you'll have a wider range of psi to run at.. there's a ton of little things that are recommended to do that will increase reliability but thats your choice and it also depends on if you have the money or not.. i'd say better fuel injectors, new mafs, ground kit possibly.. thats where you get into the smaller things that end up making the difference.. i don't know enough about the process to give you more details but nissanfanatic has already done some of this.. i'm sure he'll help you out like he's already started with me.. thanks, by the way.

While your engine is opened up, might wanna think about the rods, not really important at low boost, but better do it if you're taking the engine out anyways.

The rods and crank are already forged. If you aren't going to be running over 20psi, then the stockers will be fine. Rods get pretty pricey. If you decide to change them, I would go with Crower or Pauter. Pauters are supposed to be extremely strong. Do a timing chain kit while the engine is open. Replace the pcv valve too. TatII has helped me out some so you can ask him too. Engine mounts are always a good idea. Check all your vacuum hoses while the engine is out.

well thanks for the info, but i dont know where you guys got the idea that my engine is out, cause i re read my message and i dont see were it implies this, but that cool. Anyways, I talked with the guy that is going to do the turbo and he says that it includes the intercooler new hoses, new fuel system, new mafs, and all that jazz. So knowing this, what do you guys think about the kit, and should i do anything else to the engine to prepare it better. Oh and I think for an extra $500 I can get the compression lowered with new custom pistons and im not sure but i think also new cams. He says that I will be pushing 320 easily with this kit at the wheels and for that extra 500, I could be pushing 400, oh by the way i have an automatic(yes i know you dont have to say a thing), and from what i understand i can handle 320 on my tranny, but 400 will kill it, what do you guys think. As of right now i want to have the "GO" so that is why i havent done a tranny swap yet, once i get the turbo in it then i will try to get money for the swap, I cant think of any other things right now, but if you guys can think of any other important things to add, please let me know. thanks

What's the pont of having a turbo if you have an automatic? Anyways, I said while the engine is out because someone talked about pistons, I thought that if you were going to change your pistons, might as well to the rods to.

I've heard of the automatic slipping at 200whp. Don't count on it to hold more than 220whp. Make sure this "guy" knows what he's doing. Get details on the fuel system, lowered compression(how he plans on doing it), turbo type(specs would be nice), cams(if you get the wrong spec cams, you can actually lose power. Even if the cams have more lift and duration), and what boost controls come with your kit. Don't get screwed. What size oil lines is he running to the turbocharger? You need to run 3/16" I.D. or a -3an line unless you plan on running a restrictor. You need at least a 1/2" I.D. return line. You will be pulling the engine to put this kit on. I sure as hell wouldn't want to put the manifold and turbocharger on with the engine in the car much less route the oil line to the oil pan. Do yourself a favor and pull the engine. Do not try to drill the oil return without pulling the oil pan off.

Hey Chuck, why not? I am by doubt ignorant on the subject, most HP I've ever driven was 230 in a very heavy car. The reason I ask is that I am dropping in the RB25det into my 240 and with very little effort will be over 300hp, and I had planned on this being my daily driver during the warm months.

I think he meant 400hp in the KA or SR which is a lot for a 4cyl, it might not have a very street friendly powerband and a hard clutch.
