I have a kenwood excelon cd player that cost me $400 new. I havent had the cd player quite two years yet and its already acting up. What happens is at randon, the cd player will just turn off. It loses all power to it. It will however come back on right away, then shut off again. A few seconds later it will come back on, and play for a couple of seconds and shut off again. This time it stays off for about 10-15 seconds and when it comes back on the memory is erased and all settings are lost and it starts the cd over. Does this sound like a problem with the cd player itself or does this sound like a power problem? Everything else in my car works fine...all lights interior lights, everything.

THanks in advanced

It could be a constant or powerline, kenwoods a great brand but they will do that after awile. have a car audio place check it out or somthing.

Well I'll be taking my interior apart in about two weeks to install a bunch of stuff, so I'll check the power to it then. I don't think it would be the power though becaus it does the same pattern everytime. I think if it was the power it would be more random than it is. But I guess I'll see. I may end up buying a JVC to replace it if I can't get it working.

I hope you didn't use wire crimps to attach the wire harness to the deck?... soo many people do this and yes its effective for a little while, but after bumps, they can come loose.. always soder and black tape... best connection there is...

I actually have no idea how its hooked up. I didn't hook it up, it was professionally installed. I'm hoping its the power, because I really don't want to spend the money for a new cd player. But from the way it acts, I'm almost positive its the unit itself thats messed up.

what i do is this.. separate the strands of wire to be crossed, cross them, then take 2 pairs of each cross strand, cross those.. then solder and put on electrical tape

I don't have a soldoring gun. I'm keeping my hopes that it is just the power wire since the deck was so expensive, but I still have my doubts. Wish I had the time to check now, but I'll get there eventually. It doesn't shut off near as often when I'm using the radio (maybe once), but when I use my cd's its constant. Especially when I turn up the volume. So I'm lost. Not sure what's going on.

I've already installed 6x9s and 4x6s. I need to cut the sheetmetal to get the 6x9s in flush and install the boards for the 4x6s. I'm also installing power windows, locks, alarm, fixing my gas guage (it does not read right), aligning and gluing down my white face guages, installing six tweeters, and installing leds in my heater vents, so i'm waiting till I can do that to check the cd player. No point in taking the dash apart more than I have to. Plus I have two Audiobahn 12s that i'm going to build a box for (hoping to get JL W-7s soon or Kicker Solobaric SL7s). So I'm going to be busy installing shit on my car.

led's in the vents? i just put small green neons in mine.. didnt even think of led! i was contemplating taking out my spare tire and making a box for a single w-4 12 to fit in there with a amp. i just dont know if i would like how it would look in there...

I couldn't take out my spare...Too afraid that I'd be shit out of luck if I blew one. And yes I have these tiny little leds that i'm putting in my heater vents. I'm going to mount them on the outside under my dash cover and have the leg inside the vent. Hopefully it'll turn out to look good. I will put neons under my dash and under my seats to light up the floor boards later.

If you are looking at that stuff, you should give serious thought to Directed Audio. People that's heard my system and are into serious stereos can't believe it.

Same guys that make Viper car alarms and also own Orion, PPI, and A/D/S to mention a few. They've been in the audio bizz for some time now but for some reason are not known since big chain stores don't carry them. It is worth a serious look if you get the chance. Just remember what ever you pick, it is only as good as the time and materials used. If you don't take into account in what your equipment needs and can do, what your vehicle needs, and what material used to build it, it just won't sound as good as it could. The 2 biggest mistakes is using poor material and making the wrong size/style of box. I only use commercial grade HDF and not that MDF commonly found at local lumber yards. It is much more harder and won't flex like MDF. Also, sometimes I use 1" or thicker depending on the rated power.<<<just food for thought.

Check out DEI at www.directed.com I will warn you that their stuff is not flashy in any way, just rock solid.

Thanks. I've never made a box before so I wasn't sure what kind of wood to use. I'll take a look at directed but I'm still pretty sold on JL and Kicker. JL is going to be hard for me to get so I may end up with the Kicker Solobaric L7 subs.
